Yes, the 6906 doesn't have a back strap in the true sense of the term, the 3rd Gen grip is the back strap like the Walther PPK.
To the OP; I have an old 669, and have run everything from 147gr Ranger T to Federal 115gr. +p+ thru it and it has yet to jam! Accuracy is BETTER than my 5946, and it will feed off of any 5900 series mags out there. My normal carry load at present is the Speer 124gr. Gold Dot.
Smith never made a steel framed "mini gun" so if your looking for the all steel model, your looking at either a 659 or 5906 in stainless or the 559/5905 in blue, both of which are rather rare.
And just as a bit of trivia the Air Force did express some interest in the 469 when it was introduced, and these were Smiths best sellers until the 3913 showed up. Dale
