Default My Lucky day at the range (pre 29)

So a few weeks ago my dad and I bought 2 revolvers from a friend whose brother passed, the one I snagged was a M57 4" nickel 99%, and the other my dad got was what he thought was a mod 29 96% 4" blued . My father knows a lot about guns but not smith specific so I trusted that it was a 29, well today at the range I poped open my dads "29" to see exactly what variant it was if any. I realized it wasn't a 29 but a PRE 29 serial number s1799XX!
I could not believe what he had and he didn't believe me when I said it The even better thing is we paid less than $1000 for the pair! could anyone tell me what year the gun is from? and from what I read it should have coke style grips but I dont believe it dose. is that right? sorry I don't have any pics of the pre29 but it is excellent condition for being 60ish years old. but here is one of the M57

PS please tell me if the pic dose not work

I have one close to your serial number that was shipped in 1958. Perhaps that will help. You can only know for sure by getting a letter. They were not shipped in serial order.
