Question about my 19-3
I picked up a Nickel 19-3 this week and Im just getting around to notice that the numbers on the frame do not match the numbers I see when I open the cylinder . Numbers on the frame start with 5K5 , the numbers on the cylinder are just 5 digits starting with 792 and directly below that is stamped F14
What does all this mean ?

Mike 44, first off, great looking M19-3, really nice. Congrats! The numbers on the crane and the cylinder, I have been told are just assembly numbers. The number on the butt of the M19-3 is the serial number and the one that is meaningful. There should be a N stamped in the frame and a N on the cylinder face where the rounds load. Those N's mean it is a nickel gun. Rest of the numbers you gave, just assembly numbers. Oh, on the inside of the grip panel, right grip panel I believe, you should see the serial number of the gun stamped in the wood. That would mean those are the original grips. Hope that helps.

JC
My only other S&W is a 686 and that one has the same serial number on the crane and the butt of the frame , So when I saw different numbers on the 19's frame and crane I thought previous owner might have changed the cylinder or crane . The numbers on the grips do match the frame numbers and I did see the N stamped on the frame.
Thank you

On the crane or on the frame where it is cut out for crane?
A 686 came with target stocks that covered the one on the butt so the serial number was also stamped in the yoke cut.
Since you're snubbie 19 didn't, it's only on the butt.
If you remove the stocks, you should find the same 5 digit assembly number you see on the crane on the left side of the grip frame.

Mike 44:
Since the numbers don't match I would get rid of it immediately! I'll PM you my address
The Fellas gave you the scoop, and they are 100% correct. Use it in good health!
