Default Model 10 light strike fix

I am new to the forum. I am sharing a non approved, get by fix to my light strike problem. Just bought my 10-5 4" and love it. Light trigger pull, too light and the companion light primer strikes. Saw the strain screw was flat so ordered a new screw.

But not very patient I decided to test the idea with a shim to effectively make my current screw play longer. So a diet coke can folder over four times was inserted as shown. Wallah, it worked not more light strikes and trigger pull firmed up, but still nice. Now will replace screw when it arrived. Thanks to all the old posts which helped me.

The correct method would have been to replace the mainspring. The preferred method is to flatten the mainspring (eg. getting rid of the bend).
It's not very smart to play "shade tree" on guns.

Honest to Pete Gunsmiths have been using the strain screw to tune mainspring tension for more than 100 years. S&W also uses the strain screw to tune mainspring tension in the Performance Center which can be confirmed easily by asking anyone who has purchased a PC model, because they all ship with the strain screw a bit loose. Finally, peening of the end of the strain screw is a known wear issue. So, I would not call replacing a strain screw "shade tree" gunsmithing, it is in fact the first thing that a real gunsmith would replace on a S&W with light strike issues.

Look at the pic. That mainspring is very flat, even when preloaded. What was done was to diagnose the problem. Nothing wrong with that while a new screw is on the way. 8-32 socket set screws (loctited) work well too.
