Default Georgia Arms "canned heat" opinions?

Any one havd an opinion on the quality of Georgia Arms "canned heat"? The price is pretty good. Since I no longer hand load, it seems a good way to make my .40 cal range ammo the same as my .40 cal "defense ammo."

I've used their 45 Colt and 44 special ammo with good results. Just for fun at the range, no crazy accuracy testing or anything. Was "off hand" accurate for me.

You're right, the price is hard to beat.

I've always heard good about it and bought 1000 rounds of .38 Special in 2009.

Two random and not large issues.
-The 500 Lead Semi Wadcutters arrived as plated flat point bullets. Not a big deal as they're just for plinking but...not LSWC's as advertised. This was in 2009 though...supply issues maybe?

-I ordered 500 rounds of the famous FBI +P LSWC HP ammo and it was exactly as billed. Soft lead hollow points with a noticeable amount of more recoil...but with a noticeable poof of smoke upon firing. Even out of 4" K and N frame revolvers it did this.

Despite this both loads shot flawlessly. Ammo can was in good shape too.

I have shot several thousand rounds of their 223. I didn't do any accuracy tests, but it went bang every time. Pretty good plinking ammo...

I've fired a pile of it in .38 Special, 9mm and .45 ACP as well as 5.56mm. I have had completely positive results with Ga. Arms products.

Tom, Most of the time when I go to a gun show here in Ga. is just to buy ammo from Ga. Arms. They are closed on the weekends, this is because they are out at the shows. I have bought many calibers of their ammo, and I have never had any trouble with any of it. Ray

I too have found Ga arms ammo to be very reliable inexpensive ammo. And yes they are always at the big gun shows in the south selling ammo by the wheel barrow load and I mean this litteraly.

I've never gotten anything but top-qualty ammo from GA -- and I've bought lots of it.

Been using 'Canned Heat' .38 spl, both SWC and Plated for years. Many thousands of rounds and no complaints. The SWC load do lead a bit but don't effect acc. And nothing that 'Chore-Boy' won't handle.
They also pay $3.50/100 for fired .38 brass.
I've spent a lot of money with them and will continue to do so.

I have purchased from them here in S.C. at the local gun show and have had no problems with their ammunition. Just as Waffenmac say, they carry it out by the wagon load. We have not gotten any wheelbarrows here yet, we are a little behind Georgia(lol).
Also, you may check out Palmetto State Armory site. They sell to local leo's and have good prices on ammo and weapons.

I'll second that. They are the "new kids" on the block and workin' hard to build their reputation. Doin' a damned good job of it too!

WWB is new ammo, GA Arms sells reloads. Not sure shooting unknown reloads in a 40 is a good plan, though many folks do it.

I am happy to buy components from them, but had some bad ammo from them once, their customer service was non-existent on my problem.

YMMV

Been shooting the .38 WC and SWC for three years now. They're a little smokey, but not too bad. Certainly nothing I can't live with for the price. I also like the brass exchange they do. Makes target shooting more affordable; I shoot allot more since I've been buying bulk from them.

Georgia arms supplies several Police agencies with their "reloads", and has for some time. Below is an excerpt of a comment by a LEO on Georgia Arms ammo.

I suppose all those "reloads" in the LEO guns are a bad idea though, huh? Also have heard a Sheriff on this board say that they supply MASSIVE amounts to Georgia LE Agencies.

"My Office burns 30-40K of Georgia Arms (9mm, 40, 223) per year, for the past 14 years. My Deputies carry their 165 grn +p 40 Gold Dots as their duty ammo. We carry the 5.56 55 grn softpoint in our patrol rifles, and our subguns run the 124 grn Golf Dot +p.
NEVER a problem. I find their ammo and customer service top notch. I know many LEO agencies in Georgia (other places I am sure) that use it, such as the local police academy, FLETC in Brunswick, I have never heard a complaint."

Police agencies have used reloaded ammo from before many here were born. It is a budget decision, and always has been.

Many gun manufacturers caution against the use of reloaded ammo of any kind. Reloaded ammo accounts for the majority of gun damage seen by gun manufactureres (not all, but far and away the majority).

The 40 has a reputation destructive disassembly due to ammo selection above the average for semi-auto calibers. Like I mentioned, MY read is I wouldn't want to add reloads to that equation.

I am tickled pink so many find GA products satisfactory. I hope no one ever has a problem with that ammo. But to imply it is flawless is not justified.

The biggest problem with reloading the 40 is you don't know in what chamber that brass was first fired. Was the brass run through a push through base sizing die to take the "glock bulge" out? This is a common prep step in some mass brass processers.

The 9mm 40 and 223 are all very high pressure loads. They have very little room for error. Georgia Arms does not have the same QC as Winchester, Remmington, or any of the other big boys.

Owner of my local range gets a lot of ammo from them. I don't personally use any of it (reload myself), but I see lots of folks using it, they all seem to like it. They occasionally bring polishing media to gun shows at very good prices.

I've been a satisfied customer of theirs for a number of years. Great folks to do business with.

Their prices on 9mm and .45 FMJ aren't as low as wallyworld so I've used little of it.

Shot a few thousand of their .40 when it was still relatively new and hard to find. No issues.

Literally tens of thousands of .38 special range loads; had one fail to fire years ago, which is better than the 'majors' do nowadays.

They also load stuff the majors quit years ago or never did make, like .32 S&WL JHP at decent speeds, .45AR and the like.

Nice folks.

Regards,

Pat

I've shot their .38 Special, .357 Magnum and 45 Auto ammo and all were just fine. It's good ammo for the price but can be a little dirty at times.

Default G/A reloads

I have been using Georgia Arms canned ammo for several years and have not had a problem with their ammo. I have almost exhausted 4000 rounds of .40 caliiber without a problem. I find their prices are great and when placing an order, their shipping is excellent. I would rate a thumbs up for the company.

They run free shipping at times, too (on orders over a certain size). One of those deals is running right now.

Default Quality ammo

I've shot Georgia Arms .223, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP ammo for years and I've never had a problem. When you're looking at their products, they post ammo in 3 ways: (1) "canned heat" is reloaded once shot brass (2) any listing that simply describes the ammo is also reloaded once shot brass (3) if the ammo is listed with "New" in front of the description, it is new brass and not a reload. GA Arms has state of the art loading equipment and they did relocate to a new facility a few years ago due to constantly expanding sales. Many large and small police departments and other agencies depend on them for their ammo for training and practice, so it is reliable.

Note regarding the .223 ammo: Georgia Arms loads to SAAMI specs only and none are mil-spec. So if you practice with .223 ammo but plan to use M193 or other mil-spec ammo for hunting or self defense, you may have to make some slight adjustments to your sights for long range shooting. For me, that is a minor consideration for the savings on practice ammo.

I started shooting my order today in two guns. It worked fine in both. It is a little dirty. I'll be cleaning my guns regularly. I saw some Federal ball ammo in my LGS today in 150 round packages at a lower price. For the time being I am going to shoot this JHP for practice.

I've shot several thousand rounds of assorted .357 Magnum ammo from them and I've never had any problems. I've found there ammo to be cleaner than WWWB ammo which I will not\,by choice, use again.
I think Georgia Arms ammo is an excellent value.

Have been using it for years with nary a problem. If you buy $500 of ammo, which sure ain't hard to do any more, shipping is free. Maybe you can team up with some friends for a larger order.

They are not infrequently out of certain types of ammo due to "component shortage". They have a very good web site and have always been very good to talk with either in person or via phone. If you have a question give them a call. The are good folk.

I am a GA resident which means I get to pay the state a tribute of 7%. At least I know my tax dollars will be well spent (tongue stuck way far in cheek)!

Had great results with their 9mm 124 gr NATO rounds (just ordered another 1,000) as well as their 147 gr Sub-Sonics. Also shot 100 rounds of their 180 gr .40 S&E with no issues. I prefer their ammo over WWB any day of the week.
