One doesn't mount a bi-pod to the barrel.

Ok is there a way to mount a bipod to the stock forearm without drilling holes?

thumbs You do not want to put any extra pressure on your barrel. What are you looking to do with a pod. Hunt? or fun gun. If hunting get a shooting sticks in the height you need. If for bench or prone use Drill and hole to mount. Or up grade to basic freefloat tube like rra or dpms then a pod will not effect accuracy .

The method I suggest by which to mount a bi-pod would be to install a free floating rail and attach the bi-pod to it.
Here is a pic of a Daniel Defense Omega 7.0 free float rail on my M&P 15.

Stu, I see that the forward cap is still mounted behind you gas block. Is that there to cover the hole in the free float guard? Looks great, I am really wanting to free float my barrel. Thanks

Yep, you got it right....just covers the opening....it doesn't touch the rail. Having it there keeps the big clods of dirt from piling up when I dive into the trenches during run and gun. j/k

Heck of an idea Stu, that has been one of the questions I have been having about free floating. I also dont really have a use for a quad rail but want the ability to mount a bipod of my choice and dont want to spend a lot of money. $200 for one is a ton of money.

RRA simple clean handguard and has a single hole for swing swivel to mount what ever type of pod you want to use. Versa pod has the palm swell type hand stop for support for upright shooting and a pod for bench or ground use.

Most of the time I want it for range shooting. I may use it for hunting but mostly for the range. I don't want to drop a ton of money into an expensive handguard.

Have you seen bipods that work with this setup??
thank

Has anyone mounted a Picatinny rail to the bottom of the stock handguard using the existing holes. Sounds like that would be perfect for me.
