S&W 547
Found one of these at the LGS for sale. It has a 4" unpinned barrel, blued 95%, no box, and ugly Goodyears on it.
I had a Ruger 357 convertible and it was fun just plain fun to shoot with the 9mm cylinder. For some reason I find this 9mm dedicated revolver interesting .

Matt, Buy it or let me know where it is and i'll buy it and you can come shoot it from time to time. Been looking at one of these for awhile and
most i see are 850 bucks and up in condition you describe.
Sounds like a fun inexpensive plinking gun.
They did'nt make a whole lot of them.

Go back first thing in the morning and BUY IT!!!!!!!!!! You will make $500.00 profit the moment you walk out the door. The 547 4 inch version is very rare and valuable. I have the 3 inch version and love it.

I'm on my way in the morning!
Im hurting a little right now just bought cokes for my pre 29 and then today I made the mistake of stopping by the gun shop. He had this piece and a 36 no dash.
OH how I'm going to get into trouble with the better half!
Looks just like the one above minus stocks and a longer barrel, so I guess it looks nothing like the one above. LOL But that hammer really got my attention when I was looking at it.

Hey glad you finally found your Cokes. You really can't go wrong
with the 547. If you don't like it you can turn around and make money
off the deal right away. Explaining this to the better half might work,
might not. Haha
Best, Chuck

It was priced at $450 with holster wear near the muzzle, near mint magna stocks. I'm guessing it had a 2.5" barrel looked really short. I would rate it at 90%.

It's called...
Lay-a-way! If you have a smart phone, use the notes! I have gotten into the habit of listing certain harder to find models, the spec's, and prices! So you can check right there. And my phone is always with me. If that puppy is still there, you one lucky person.

I will have to wait until this afternoon they don't open till 12:00.
Rapidray that's a good idea I did make notes in my phone a few months ago listing all the model numbers with their frame size. I also use my phone while looking at pistols to take notes.
Im sure if I had a "harder to find list" on my phone, I would never locate any. LOL

You can download (for a fee) the digital version of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition on certain smart phones. With the iPhone its available on the iBook app.

Ok update, I called the LGS yesterday and they told me they would hold it until I got back to look at it, very nice people.
After track and field meet yesterday, cheer leading practice and then baseball practice today I made it back there. Kids!
95% is very conservative! no barrel ware or turn line The good years throw me off I do not like them why would anyone use them other than to shoot they are comfortable but ugly, just my opinion.
I went ahead and put half down. This gun dates to 1984 per SWSC 19D89XX definitively a 4". I think it is a round butt? but that does not jive with SWSC as I read it 3" round butt 4" square butt. The good years have a screw in the bottom of them.
I don't have any with a screw in the bottom but I was unable to remove the grips to inspect it any further. I am afraid that I just sold a set of stock that I will be looking for, round butt K frame magnas . I am 99% sure it is a round butt due to the screw in the butt any info will be helpful.
Now I need to sell some N frame Diamond Magnas to fund this piece!

Screw in the bottom of the grips could be Hogue or Pachmayr. You remove the screw and then the grips slide off as one piece, you pull straight down, and then angle the bottom of the grip slightly forward.
Look on youtube, I am sure there is a video that explains it. Once you do it once or twice, it's a piece of cake. Some of the rubber grips require the removal of the grip stud, in which case you have to buy new ones and replace them. Luckily they are VERY cheap.

absolutely
Here's a video, it's a round butt in the video, but trust me, I have several with square butt and the install/removal is the same.

I think once he gets the grips off he will find a square butt frame.

I had one stolen from me 1995 (serial # ABL5311) that I have been looking for ever since. I could shoot that gun better double action than any gun I've owned before or since.
I later bought a 3", but it wasn't the same.
Hope you enjoy yours as much as I liked mine.

The 3" is RB and the 4" is SB. I bought a chromed 4" a few years back that had rubber grips. When I removed the grips I found that someone had taken a grinder and rounded the grip. After some clean up with a file, it didn't look too bad. I like RB K frames and this 547 has become a good friend.

Bullet Bob,
I agree completely with your statement on double action shooting the 547. The triggers on mine are all excellent.

Oh I hope this one is not done that way! I wont know until I pay it off and get it back to the barn.
I am confident now, after reading the SCSW and reading Nipsters post that this is a square butt.
I do not have any round butts and the screw in the bottom of the grip threw me for a loop. None of my square butt pachmayr have the screw in the bottom.
I made the mistake and ASSUMED that it was an RB. I should have known not to assume anything.
I have another question about it but I will wait till I get it home and post some photos

I hope no one has mangled the revolver. On another topic, the round butt Hogues are the saem as the square butt, i.e. a screw on the bottom.

PHOTO
Well just picked it up yesterday and figured I would post a few quick photos. I hope to get some better photos of it in the daylight. It is in better condition than I thought no wear on this piece at all. It had hogues on it and I replaced them with a set I purchased off another forum member. Thanks Mike!
It has a very small ding on the left side just above the trigger other than that I would say a solid 98% no wear other than a lite turn line, not even on the end of the muzzle.
As stated in other threads "it didn't happen without photos" well here are a few.

That's a steal! I just finished negotiating a deal this morning for a 3" 547 for...................................$1050 OTD and thought I had done well. Now I'm feeling sick but looking forward to having it anyway. Picking it up tomorrow morning before he puts it out for the gun show.
Great deal on your 4" 547.
quick photo of new acquisition this am

Sorry I got it out today for some trigger time. I took the opportunity to snap some photos of it and my 13 outside. I had a question about the serial number and I figured I had burnt this thread out so I started a new one. I didn't realize that when I updated my photos it would delete the previous ones. Oh well live and learn.
Thanks for the comments!
SW Shooter, just return it before you take delivery of it. If you don't you will be ruined its nothing like any other S&W revolver. Not that the others are bad in anyway just this one is really unique and designed like no other S&W
