Need info on a revolver.
I just picked up a revolver in a package deal and I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it. It says 45 Cal. model 1955 on the barrel. On the inside it says mod. 28-2 under the serial number. I am assuming it is 45 colt but not really sure, any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Thanks for your responses. I am hoping to get it out and shoot it this weekend. I will try to get picks of it up soon.

If the frame has smooth bead-blasted frame edges and no grooves on the back- and fore-straps then it is a Model 28 that has been re-barreled with a 1955 .45 barrel and, probably cylinder. If this is what happened then it could be either a .45 ACP or .45 Colt, regardless of roll-marks on the barrel.
If the back- and fore-straps are grooved there is a good chance it is a mis-marked Model 25 instead of being a Highway Patrolman originally.
Either is possible.

It sounds like you have a standard 25-2 which is a 45 ACP revolver, and uses either 45 ACP in moon clips or 45 Auto Rim cartridges. It is a fine shooting revolver, and kind of sought after by many aficionado's. The chamber throats on these are historically a little oversize, and have trouble with cast bullets, but do shoot jacketed very well.
