The Secret Service.

Knot heads. What were they thinking? Never mind that. Wouldn't those top class hotels have security cameras everywhere watching who goes into who's room? Feel bad for the wives and kids of those who were married.

I guess they figure since they're the Secret Serv-us that they could 'take care' of that detail if need be . . .

That'd be my guess . . . since you asked . . . .

Hotel cameras and camera in general (think cellphones) are everywhere.

Look at that Vander-Sloot or whatever, hotel cameras got him 28 years.

Back in the day everyone was used to getting stuff "on the arm". All they had to do was pay the going rate but some people think they are special. Oh well.

They are "suppose" to be our most elite group. I am sure they are well trained in some narrow arts of protection etc, but just how much have they actualy had to actualy jump in and cover a president? Truman, kennedy and regan. 3 times in almost 80 years. How many agents in that time? 20 thousand? How are you labeled "most elite" when many more beat cops daily get far more actual experiance in being shot at etc?
I think because of the mistique given them they get the same attitude as some spoiled movie stars that start to belive their own press. If what was it, 11 guys all get caught on the same caper are we suppose to belive this is a first time thing?
This is real smart of our very best, trying to stiff a lady over $47s! Were they trying to impress them with their elite badge? Probley thought the girls should be paying them for the privledge!

Who cares if they got some hookers? I fail to see how that affects their job unless they left their posts to do so.

Default Not me!

Nothing political here. If I was as much a target as any American president
has been, I would want folks around me with their heads in the game.
Serious people for a serious job.
I'd fire all of them . I'm a dope, but if I was properly financed, even I could figure out a way to compromise these cretins. I'd at least know what to use for bait now.
Plus, these guys represent us and our country. I am embarrassed and would be just as embarrassed if there were some one from the other side in office.
I got a kick out of something I read, comparing these guy's behavior with Sir James Bond. Jimmy never had to pay for it! These guys said they would and tried not to.
I wouldn't trust them any more if I was president.
It would make a difference to me!

I really don't see what all this uproar is about. These guys were hired to be the toughest bad boys around, not boy scouts. So a few were out of line, so what? So boys well be boys. I think a bunch of bull has been made out of nothing. David

Is prostitution legal in Colombia?

The reason I ask,

Looking at how many members () we have here that are former and current military I assume many have done overseas tours. In many places it is legal and many members () of the armed forces have frequented these establishments. I didn't get lucky () and get out of this country so I'm not sure if it's frowned upon.

I realize also that these girls weren't in a brothel but were brought to the agents hotel.

Here in the good old USA it's mostly illegal short of 'Vegas. I wonder how many out of towners they have served?

Lastly, Could you imagine a bunch of Colombian agents doing this in Washington?

As sigp220.45 says as he flashes his badge at the lunch counter "FBI-more roast beef!"
That goofy idiot apparantly doesn't know that you are supposed to negotiate in good faith. a $30 counter to an opening price of $800 is not good faith...Duh. And you're supposed to get negotiations out of the way first-that way no misunderstandings. That's what I've heard...from other people...on the internet...before I was married...a long time ago

I am missing something here. That or others here are. I was on bottom of the totem pole as a lowly night watchman for the largest AC defense plant. Just to get the job we went through background checks for security clearances most here wouldnt belive. First you didnt stand a chance if you were caught in any lie. Once hired you had to report a traffic ticket over $50s. You had to get permission if you wanted to go to TJ or vancouver on a shopping trip for a couple hours. You had to check back with security and discuss the trip afterwards. They put all my known girlfriends through the wringer.
Once I had a old fashion greasey looking CIA agent look me up to discuss me being a gambler. They checked me out with scattered family, old neighbors and friends. Since my company contracted with various branchs of the services etc, they all would have their own seperate people recheck our backgrounds for whatever new project I was working on or had access to. I never thought my job hard and got top pay. I suppose the good pay ultimately was really because of a squeaky clean boreing life.
I am sure ex president clinton or the potus could not have got my lowly guard job but yet they can be commander and chief?
I know many of you service men must have went through it too. What bothers me is how could at least 11 secret service agents drop through the cracks on what we would think of as the most respondsable job in the country all at the same time on the same assignment? How is it the lowest guard job that had any connection to goverment security had to be so scrutinised and how did the most "elite" get those clearances? Just makes you wonder about the people doing the checking. To me, it is hypocersy at its worst.

To me, it's not so much because the agents got caught with hookers, it's the fact that they were getting paid the big $$ to be on the job 24 hrs a day, which was stated from the beginning, so they actually were on the taxpayer dime. I could care less what the secret service, or Slick Willy Clinton, do in their spare time with their own money, but on the job or in the oval office disgraces every one of us. We deserve and have better. I wonder now, if the partying is standard practice on every outing, as it seems to be with many government agencies.

What about the agent who argued with the girl about the price and blew this all up ?!? I'll bet his buddies just love him right now. ....... ahhh, but those raven haired Columbian women are beauties.

Josh, actually the issue has nothing to do with being on the job 24/7 - they are "on-duty" and "off-duty" on shifts. The real issue is potential compromise of an agent (his trust and fidelity to the president) -- and the main underlying issue has to do with security clearances -- you need a pristine background to earn a TS, SCI or higher clearance -- and the two main things that will break a clearance are infidelity and financial issues -- as these become easy blackmail issues --
I have had to defend military members trying to retain clearances that were difficult to earn --- and had to learn everything there was to know about how clearances are vetted and what the agencies look for -- a very interesting education. That being said, you are dead-center that Columbian women (for the most part) are stunning lookers, particularly in the coastal areas (Barranquilla, etc).

I agree that the conduct was inappropriate also considering the mission of the folks involved

Hi David,
Not to be contrary, but it is hard to be the toughest if you are not the smartest.
These guys may have to deal with the smartest, most dedicated, anti American fanatics the world can produce.
The Secret service involved in this might be tough, but they don't come across as very smart. All that leaves a person with is some kind of a Mike Tyson like body guard.
Smart, tough and dedicated will beat tough every time.
Thanks
Mike

Not a very good commentary on our Secret Service. I'm sure it will
take awhile for them to rebuild the reputation as being Top Cops.
Just as always, a few bad apples makes it look as though the whole
tree has worms.

I read that the fellows who got in trouble were not on the detail that provides personal protection to the president.

I guess I am old fashioned but the hiring of prostitutes, off duty, does not bother me. I think it is a private thing. Not my business.

But I read that those involved were buying $100 bottles of vodka in a club, carousing, and took the women back to the hotel. The one who got in the argument with the guy said they had agreed the night before on $400 or $600 -- I don't recall the amount -- but the next AM the guy tried to renege and offered about a tenth of that, then threw the girl out of his room. Very stupid. And very poor, unethical behaviour. Of course she was angry, raised a scene, got support from the local cops, etc. She is a small businessperson, if you will, and her customer was breaking his contract with her. She stuck up for her rights.

Some predict fame and fortune for the girl. Could be.

I served in President Nixon's Presidential Security Detail (PSD) at Key Biscayne while in the Coast Guard.

I was a replacement for members who were dismissed from the detail for behavior not nearly as compromising as that alleged in Columbia. (Imagine some sailors partaking in the smoking of a marihuana joint with an undercover agent in Miami in the 70's!!! The horror!!)

Accepting that type of assignment entails an agreement to behave above reproach, on or off duty. It is an honor that requires a special commitment for the duration of your assignment. You operate in a different world from regular military and law enforcement.

(And yes, even though we were not on the "personal" security detail, we were armed and in the presence of the Prresident on a regular basis. Also, it was indicated by one poster that there had only been a "few" times the security personel placed their life on the line in recent decades. There are times you go into a situation thinking "This is it!" that turn out not to be. The the public never hears of that. That takes just as much courage and training as the real thing.)

Background investigations were just the beginning of the security clearance required for the assignment. Taking leave for a trip home would have the FBI checking on you, and if anything suspicious was found a report sent to the OIC. (An arrest by someone with the same first and last names in NC while I was on leave for my brother's funeral almost got me canned, untill I was able to get the OIC calmed down enought to compare the date of birth of the defendant.)

There were periods of relaxation after the President returned to DC. I was never aware of them crossing the line as this did.

I was never aware of any behavior such as this taking place during prepration for the President's arrival, either by the Air Force personel at Homestead, the Naval divers preparing/checking the underwater areas, the Coast Guard PSD, or the Secret Service. The pre-arrival duties were of highest priority, and were undertaken professionally and seriously.

These guys apparently screwed up. Their supervisors failed to supervise. There is no defending them.

Kind of what I would have expected. I would fire every one of the jerks and send them home to Mommy (let their wives deal with them). Looks like that is what is in the process of happening.

Well, that or she'll get a set of cement shoes and swim with the fishes. Going to the police can be effective (as we've seen here) or very, very dangerous. The risk of some kind of retaliation is great. She's even brought some unwanted light to her co-workers. Life is cheap in 3rd world toilets. One less hooker on the streets won't be missed. She's in a business where being discrete is the order of business.

Neanderthal that I am, I'd rather be guarded by Boy Scouts than a bunch of frat boys who think It's Party Time. Princess Di's driver/bodyguard had been boozing it and pill popping, that he how she met her end, I read that some of JFK's security detail had been having a good time, then...
Let's see, we have sworn LEOs and military personnel guarding the POTUS in a country that has been wracked by narcoterrorism and they're acting like it's Spring Break in Florida. We have a wisenheimer who probably thought he could hire a "Lady of the Evening" then pull the old "Flash his badge for an LEO discount"-this in a foreign country where the rules are different and where they are, technically speaking guests but more importantly on duty for Uncle Sam. Our Tax Dollars at Work.

Ummm... the supervisor was busy posting pictures of himself and details of his exploits on his facebook page...

Wonder if those guys have their apps in at TSA yet...

They could come to Albuquerque and run for county commissioner.

The "Fiancee" he posed with looked to be a small, skinny 16/17 year old.

I would have to assume that this was a day like any other day in and detail such as this, the only difference would be the "exposure" this day got, and the reason it got it. They are on call 24-7, but obviously not on duty all of the time. Sex is an old stand by for stress relief, with few unwanted side or after affects. Why would the hotels monitor who goes in who's room, they are the ones running the whore house?

As an Old Soldier, I can think of some unwanted side effects from sex. I have also heard of enough case of of individuals making the acquaintance of Mickey Finn during a commercial dalliance, coming to, find their wallet and other valuable items missing.
