If this has been talked about to death please let me know and I'll re-try searching for it. I have a M&P9C waiting for me as soon as I get back to the US and I am looking for a .22lr trainer or conversion kit. It seems no-one makes a slide adapter .22lr for the M&P? So how similar in terms of fit/function/etc is the M&P22 to the 9c? For the record I do plan on putting an APEX Ram and DCAEK kit into the 9c, would those also work for the M&P22? Thanks for your time!

The M&P22 is a full size weapon, very similar to my full size M&P45. I typically get warmed up with my M&P22 before going to the larger calibers. If you are wanting something comparable in size to your M&P9C, the M&P22 isn't. I have a 9C as well. The trigger pull would be similar if I left the 9C stock, but it has the APEX hard sear and striker block.

I post this warning to you in good faith. I purchased a M&P as a trainer to my M&P9. I have no time on the 9 since I got the .22. It is so much fun to shoot. I think if you are looking for a trainer in .22, the M&P is the logical choice. Apex is designing a conversion kit for the M&P 9-40 but it will be some time in arriving. The M&P22 is of course going to feel different than the 9, trigger, weight, recoil etc, but is well worth the cost for both training and just plain .22 fun. I absolutely fell in love with mine, it is without a doubt the most fun .22 pistol I've ever shot. Everyone who has shot mine says the same. I like it even more than my Model 18-0 revolver, and that is a way cool shooter. Hope this helps.

The wife and I each own a FS M&P9 along with an M&P22. From a trigger action perspective there is no difference between them.

My only complaint about the M&P22 is the 12 round limitation of mags. We spend all of our time loading mags It sure would be nice if someone figured out how to double stack 22 mags.

Apex gear for current M&Ps will NOT work in the M&P .22 as it's a completely different design (i.e. there's a hammer in the M&P .22 vs. the striker on the M&P line).

That said, I personally find it very easy to transition between my compact and full size (and even the Shield), and plan to grab a .22 within the next month for similar purposes to yours. I realize the transfer may not be as helpful for everyone, but for me at least, I expect it to be helpful.

I agree whole heartedly with this statement. I have two M&P9 FS and the M&P22. Love them all but the 22 is a hoot, my wife, daughter and I all take turns shooting it. That is a good thing with the cost of centerfire ammo these days. Except for a bent Guide Rod that caused a few jams, I'm not sure how that happened, (Smith is replacing it ASAP) it has been totally reliable with all types of ammo. It even ran some 15 year old Thunder bolt 22s I had in my ammo boxwith no problem. I would say that it will be different than a gun with the Apex parts but I like the trigger on the 22 better than the 2 9s. As soon as i get the 9s broken in I am going to add the Apex hard sear, USB and spring kit at the least.
