Pre-29 Mahogany case?
I have a question, I have read Doc44's commentary and if I understand it correctly he indicates that there were some Mahogany presentation cases shipped with Pre-29's. Mainly in the 8 3/8" length barrels, but he does not exclude the 6 1/2".
I purchased this 1957 4 screw and it came in this presentation box. The lining is more like a sheet wrapped around cardboard, with foam vs a lining applied to the foam or insert.
I am suspicious that this case is not original to the 4 screw because it had a owners manual that states "prices effective March 12 1973".
Could this be one of the few original Pre-29 Mahogany cases? or someones failed attempt at trying to complete this pistol?
Any information is appreciated

The Pre-M29's that shipped in a Mahogany case are in a "clam shell" box. The interior is a styrofoam substance that has been sprayed a blue color. The indent for the gun is half in the bottom and half in the top. Search for "clam shell" and I'm sure you can find examples. They are not rare as most of the later 4 screw guns were shipped in them. What is rare is to find one in really good condition.
The one shown is the wood to a case (vintage unknown) but the interior has been replaced.

Anyone have any idea if the Midnight blue/black cases can be found? Are they out there if one needs one to complete a pre 29 set? And if so what kind of $ do they usually bring?

Restored case
Hey mbliss57
The black cases are out there to be found but few an far between! I have seen them on FleaBay and they usually go quite high, $300-$400! If you find one and the interior is in sad shape I can restore the interior!
This is one I just completed for a member here!

Thanks Jcelect.. I actually have a clam shell that needs some work I was going to bring to our NE Ohio Bunch meeting for you to look at. If you want to PM about we can. I was just going to bring it and go from there.
Also I will keep my eyes open for the Black ones. I don't need it yet but may in the next couple of months.. I have to get the gun 1st
