Model 12, 2" barrel
I looked at a nice Model 12 today. A little wear on the cylinder of all places. Looked like it had rested on a desk or maybe in a drawer. Actions's tight. Square butt, magna stocks. S/N D235xxx which if I read the book right makes it 1969-70? I didn't notice the dash number or if it had one.
Nice box, papers, cleaning rod and brush, RP paper. Nice outfit really. Asking 500.00, will take $450.00.
How scarce are they?

Don't know about how scarce they are but as descibed I would buy it.

They are not real scarce, but your price point is at the top end for this pistol.

I picked this one up a couple of years ago for $375 with no box or papers, but it had the original grips. I put these on later with the T-grip. At $450, it may be near the high end, but the way prices are going and the fact that you don't see a lot of model 12's in good condition, I would grab it.

The SN you list should be 1970 as you supposed. That would be a 12-2.
They are in great demand, and there will never be any more of them. While $450 is toward the high end you may never see one in as good condition again, if ever. If you want it pay whatever he wants or will take, it will be worth more next year!

Thanks all. I did put it on layaway. I knew they weren't real rare, but I don't know that I've ever seen one at the shop where I do most of my business.
My wife and I were looking at it yesterday. She was telling me "Put it on layaway." I said "I don't know...if it had the box and papers, I would."
The young fellow behind the counter flipped the tag over...there was a note on the back "Box in back." My wife laughed..."He called your bluff didn't he?"

I actually think its worth every bit of that. Though not scarce, they're not necessarily that common either, as far as availability. As was previously stated, there won't be any more and I don't see that many of them still in the original box with all the papers. I've seen them selling in the $400 to $450 range for just the gun in the condition you describe.
