I just got a SD40VE and it has a magazine disconnector.

I'd like to disable it because I think it won't allow the mags to "drop free". All of my other guns; Glock 22, Taurus 24/7, SIG 2022, Star PD, Star "Fire Star", and my beloved 1911; when you hit the mag. release, the mags are absolutly [B][I][COLOR="Red"]vomited[out!
I've also read something about a "magazine brake". Is that what is impeding the drop free?

It's required in CA roster guns, along with the "LOADED WHEN UP" indicator on the top of the slide. CA, and some other states, also require a pretty severe "Drop gun" test for certification.

My state doesn't require those features but I special ordered a CA version for those features, especially the tactile indicator that allows you to know the status of the gun in the dark or low light.

I've posted on this many times.

Regarding ease of magazine drop, mine does just fine, even with a light, empty, magazine. No notable difference between normal configuration and when you remove the slide and hold the magazine sensor lever up out of the way.

If you are having problems, check the magazine and it's housing for rough spots, lube the sensor lever a bit, and most important, check the slide lock and it's spring.

FWIW, my mags stick whether loaded or not. I'm going to try ou1954's method and see if that works. If it doesn't no biggee, as long as the gun works I'm happy.

See Clenceo's reply in my thread. I plan to do this simple mod after I've shot the first few rounds through my brand new gun.
