I'm not a final source but the only 27's I've seen are 6 shooters. I have 2 627's that are 8 rounds.

Yes there were
The first 8 shot carbon steel model 27s were released in 2000 as a distributor exclusive for Bangors. The prototype was a 5". The first runs were 4" and 6 1/2".
There were supposed to be followed with a run of 3 1/2" and 5" but it never went forward.

Lew Horton picked up the slack in 2006 with runs of blue, eight shot model 27s in 3 1/2" and 5".
In 2007 he followed up with the same barrel length in nickel
The following image is one of each production variation of carbon steel, 8 shot model 27 that S&W has ever produced. All six pictured revolvers remain unfired since leaving the factory and bear the same serial number.

Model 27-7 product codes 170166 4" blued and 170167 6 1/2" blued were made in 2000. 100 of each were made. And they were made for Bangors.

model 27
I have one of the 4 inchers from Bangors. They only made 100 of the 4 in. and 100 of the 6 inchers. They were all S&W Performance Center guns. They feature no locks, and are cut to accept 8-shot moon clips. As there were only 200 made in total they can be very hard to find.
Good luck with your quest.

I have one of the Bangors Model 27-7 6-1/2 inchers I bought new in October, 1980. It is still unfired post-factory. I have tried for years to find a 4 incher to buy or trade for the longer gun, but 100 guns spread across the entire country is very slim pickings! I have toyed with the idea of having the barrel cut to 4 or 5 inches and shooting the devil out of it.

I have one of the 4in. models that I found quite by accident. I have since seen another at a price below $1000. but must confess it did not last more than a couple of days. When I thought about it ,it was already gone.

I found my 4" in a local gun store, didn't realize how rare it was at the time.
