Default Buffalo Bore 305s in a 629-5?

Will I destroy my gun (or my hand) by shooting these things? Rounds are Buffalo Bore 44 Magnum 305 grain LBT LFN (1,325 fps/M.E. 1,189 ft. lbs.) . I have a box of 20. I was planning to shoot 6 rounds and keep the remaining for bear protection. I plan to do go out to Yellowstone, but also do a fair amount of camping in black bear territory. Per their website: "recommended for all STEEL revolvers and rifles on today’s market. It is not suitable for scandium or aluminum alloy revolvers."

Anyone shot these?

Never shot them but the idea of shooting it in a scandium 329 makes my hand hurt.

Your plan is sound as far as shooting 6 and saving the rest for a bear encounter. While it won't destroy or hurt your 629 they are a pretty stout for the 629 and I wouldn't shoot a steady diet of those rounds through it. IMHO a steady diet of those rounds will shoot your 629 loose after awhile.

I would worry more about a Grizzly bear in Yellowstone than Black Bears and believe me they are a WHOLE different animal as far as stopping an attack goes. I have seen more Grizzly Bears than blacks in Yellowstone. Hopefully you don't see any bears at all. Best carry bear spray along with your gun.

We spend quite a bit of time covering ground North of Yellowstone looking for shed antlers so watch your back side.

You would probably be better served with a standard loading ie 240-260 at 1200, a good hard 250 gr at that velocity will handle about anything you'd care to shoot with a 44 , and a big plus for this load is that your gun will safely digest thousands of them , just a thought

You should be okay. Check with the ammo manufacturer for compatibility , but I don't expect a serviceable 629 to fall apart after a few shots. Long term use could likely send the gun back to the factory for a rebuild sooner than normally expected, but that's about it. Recoil is likely to be memorable, depending exactly which configuration of 629 you have.

Thanks guys. I greatly appreciate the responses. I do plan to carry bear spray, but want the gun also. The gun is a 629-5 with 4" barrel that I carry in a bladetech kydex holster. I hope I never need to shoot more than six of these Buffalo Bore rounds.
