I have seen a lot of questions and a lot of talk recently about the 645. I recently purchased a 645. I have had Ruger P90's in the past and they have always been very accurate pistols and never any problem. But I never did like the frame and the boxy feel of them ( I didn't like an alloy frame ). I always enjoyed the feel of a 1911 but did not care for the single action, so I sold mine and went back to the P90. I had some pistol money come in so I thought I would try the S&W 645, sounded like the perfect fit for me. I ordered one off of GunBroker ( Paid way to much but got what I was looking for ) and when I received it, I was pleased. The gun fit my small hands pretty good. Felt like a 1911 ( not trying to insult the huge 1911 fans ) a was a really beauty. Solid built and heavy is exactly what you get with this gun. I took it to the range and after readjusting the sights I finally got it to shoot exactly at point of aim at 15 yards. Very good groups. Mine came with a Magna Ported barrel and slide. I like the looks of the Magna porting but can't tell a difference in the recoil, plus it allows the sights and the inside of the slide to become extremely dirty. So for this reason I found another member here that had a New Barrel and slide assembly that he sold me ( old gun smith ). I paid a reasonable price for the slide assembly and received it in about a week. After 8 rounds I had the new slide dialed in. Man this gun is everything that I hoped for. It is awesome! it is very accurate ( Not a target pistol ). Comfortable to shoot and nice slim design. I just wanted to share my experience with the 645. Here is some pictures I hope you enjoy them. Congratulations on your purchase. They are fine handguns if you don't mind the weight. Reliable and accurate in .45 too.

In 1986 I was one of three Rangemasters for my department. The neighboring Sheriff department had recieved approx. 300 645s for issue. I was asked to help their Rangemaster to test fire the lot. I was able to run three magazines through each of the ones I fired to test for function only. I spent a week doing it. Firing new weapons, didn't pay for the ammo and got paid for doing it. One of the best times I had during my career. I even got to shoot two at a time cowboy style.

A terrific pistol, and if you like a square trigger guard, as I do, the 4506 no dash is the same, but with a wrap around grip.

Good work! I think you'llenjoy the 645. I purchased one back in March and sent mine off to Karl Sokol at Chestnut Mountain Sports in Vermont.

He will 'modernize' it by a gentle bead blast, blunting the many sharp endges, performing his 'high-grip' modification, adding a dovetail 1911 front Tritium sight and an action job. The Ed Brown extended safety is mine. I have them on all of my S&Ws.

I feel the 645 is like a DA 1911. In fact, it feels a little more svelte than my 2 4566s. I like the longer 5-inch autos. The muzzle-heavy feel seems like its a better pointer.

The wood grips have given way to the original Nylon grips. These grips have been ROBAR-ized like my two 4566s.

Enjoy the 645. They are GREAT guns.

Your 645 looks very nice. I just recently discovered these autos from S&W and I am hooked.

Congrats on a 2nd .45!! I have the 4506 and like you I love the weight, fit and accuracy. A 645 is on my bucket list.. But with the 4506 it's kind of down there too many other cool Smiths to try still!
It is my most accurate gun at 15 yards with exception of my 1911. But I would say its very close to my 1911 in accuracy. Maybe just as good.

gtoppcop I have those wood grips also and they do look very good on you're 645. The pacmyer are just to comfortable to take off, but if you like a skinnier grip the wood would be best.

I recently piced up a 645 and I think it was a mistake...

Now I want to buy another one and a 4506

4330Inroute color me green with jealousy! I would like to thank Springfield Armory for screwing me over on a 1911 order that landed me in the 3rd gen S&W world. I have a 4506-1 that is a used PD weapon and I could not be happier with it. Jstanfield103 if your 645 treats you as well as my 4506-1 has treated me you will love that piece.
