Default S&W Performance Center gunsmithing

Has anybody sent their M&P to Smith & Wesson to have the M&P action package down to their pistol and were you satisfied with the results? I just bought a M&P 45C and was thinking about having this done. While the trigger pull is ok for me it is on the heavy side. I took it to the range for the first time yesterday and put 100 rounds through it and it did good especially with some target rounds I loaded up (I shot one group at 15 feet that made one ragged hole that was a little over an 1" in diameter). I know it will lighten and smooth up the more I shoot it and I was wondering if the $150 for the Smith & Wesson action package was worth it. They polish the feed ramp, tune the action, and install a performance center sear. The $150 includes a 5 day turn-around with pick-up and delivery.

The total cost is $186 with shipping. I was thinking about getting it done. Everyone is going to suggest the Apex sear. But, I do not like how it increases pretravel, so the trigger breaks all the way at the rear.

I am also considering a Bowie L trigger job for $85 plus shipping $70 or I might just get it polished by a local gunsmith for $75.

I sent my 45C to S&W for this service. To be honest, I was not impressed. Your better off w/ the Apex sear and USB. If you have a dremel tool w/ polishing pad, it's pretty easy to polish the feed ramp and a couple other parts that may need some smoothing.

While some people have been able to follow the burwell instructions and modify their own parts. I personally would NOT do so if the primary use of the firearm is protection. This is more from a legality aspect than practical. Should the firearm be used in self defense, installing aftermarket parts specific to "duty carry" would draw less suspicion vs. doing the modifications yourself.

What do you like about the Apex sear other than having a lighter trigger pull? Will41 said he doesn't like the increased pretravel but that would not be a problem with me. Also what is a USB?

Lacking the experience, I will have a gunsmith do the work. I'd rather pay the money and have it done properly and safely.

Apex explains it pretty well on Youtube. Shooting a handgun accurately is all about trigger control. By moving the second stage further back and decreasing over travel, there's less likelihood of pulling the shot. That's not to say you can't pull a shot with the apex sear and everyone is a little different. There is just less chance of torquing the shot when you decrease over travel. You can see if for yourself by watching the front sight while practicing w/ an empty firearm. If you are torquing the shot at all, the front sight will twitch to the right (right handed shooters) when the sear disengages, left for left handed shooters.

The USB is the ultimate striker block. This smooths the overall trigger pull and takes some of the grittiness you may feel with a stock firearm.
