Default Double Action Missfires With 686-5

I have a 686-5 with the frame mounted firing pin . When shooting double action I get a light primer strike about every 6 to 8 rounds . No problems shooting single action . The gun was purchased used.
Any ideas ?
Nick

Take the grips off and tighten the small tension screw on the front of the butt frame, I suspect someone has loosened it for a "better trigger." Tighten it as tight as it goes. Odds are that will fix it.

A loose tension screw is the most common reason for light primer strikes.

after that.......Check for shortened tension screws. Some people like to file the end down.

If you still have issues, replace the hammer spring. Wilson (and others) make a spring kit that retails for under $20. It will replace the hammer spring and give a couple of trigger rebound springs to let you adjust your trigger pull. It is well worth the time and money. It also is a great time to do a detail strip and clean of the gun. With the hammer and trigger out, you can get to all the nooks and crannies.

Clean where the top of the hammer strikes the frame. It's amazing how much garbage gets shoved up there.

if it comes back consider the apex firing pin kit. a little longer pin can makeup for slop in the action.
