Dang.....I wanna be a smart $&(, but I love this forum so here goes...........3 screw has two side plate screws showing with grips on. 4 screw has an additional screw under and in front of the trigger guard. 5 screw has one just ahead of the rear sight on the non- swing out side of the gun. The number of screws also is somewhat indicative of the age of the gun. What do you have, or are you just interested? K22's are fine revolvers.

Once upon a time, they were all 5 screw k22's. The pic at the top of this screen is a 5 screw. You can see 3 of them on the sideplate. Another is in front of the trigger guard. Another under the grip on the sideplate.

Around 1957, the screw at top of side plate next to hammer was eliminated as a cost saving measure. Guns thus manufactured were 4 screw k22's. Around 1961, the screw in front of the trigger guard was eliminated, ie a 3 screw gun.

Functionally no difference. They do indicate the time period the gun was made, for what that's worth. Consensus is the earlier guns had more hand fitting and loving care in their manufacture.

(slow typing)

Charlie.
