Default Another Post War Pre model 10

I picked this Post War Pre Model 10 "one liner" up today for $315 OTD at a LGS.
S/N S 915xxx puts it around 1947-49. I will probably letter it to get an exact ship date.
It is in really good shape. No box and the grips are correct but don't number to the gun.
Note the Police Logo on the side plate. It could be an old Cleveland Police gun but no one seems to know. I live in the Cleveland area but who knows where this old shoe has been!

Really nice one liner. What variation of front sight is on it? I'm looking at the pictures on my phone and can't really tell.

Samxxx, I added a couple of pics of the front sight. It is a serrated kind of half ramp half rounded. It doesn't look like the sights on the other post war pre 10's that are in another thread close by. or in the SCSW. Maybe it was modified. It sure looks original to the barrel.
Anyone have any more info?

This gun most likely shipped around May of 1947.

That style of front sight is associated with later production. If it's indeed a modification (as I suspect), it at least appears to have been very well done, and in any event, isn't much to the detriment of an ex-police weapon. Adds character, in fact.

Goony, any possibility it's original as a transitional example. I have a 5 screw "Baby Chief" from 1952 with a small trigger guard and small grip that should have the half moon sight but it has the serrated ramp instead. Is there any chance this could be original or am I just wishing too much?
I will letter it anyway.
Mike

Hi Mike, your finding aome nice ones. I had a pre=war M&P with a 5" bbl. It had CPD on the frame. I assumed Cleve Police Dept. Thats a nice gun and should be fun to shoot, Larry

I just found in the SCSW that the 1/10" sight was change to the 1/8" thick sight on tapered barrels in 1962 on the 10-5. So that sight has to be a later alteration. No unique transition... I wish I had caught that before I bought it. It is a very nice good alteration because I cannot see any evidence of re-blue and the sight looks to be original to the barrel... But the barrel is correct to the gun. Well It will be a nice .38 M&P shooter. The mechanics are great.
