Default older 22a rail question (and others)

so i've been lurking a while using the search function and pulling up old threads and can't find any answers so I hope you guys can help.

i've picked up what I think is an older 22a (i imagine it's older because it has no magazine disconnect- correct me if i'm wrong)
and of course i'd like to use that rail for something.

After a couple of failed purchases at bsa's and tasco red dot sights I picked up a sightmark because I've read on here a couple people have mounted them with no issues/mods.

i think it looks great but I'm concerned that it may not be on properly.

not sure if you can see but the clamp sides are sitting on the edge of the rail and the lil rib of the rail. everything seems to be sitting properly, the lil cross bolt is where it needs to be, the left side clamp is right against the rail but the removable right side clamp has to clamp down at a weird angle just to grab the lip of the rail since it's also sitting on the rib.

it feels like it's on there solid, but is this how it's supposed to go on? it won't quite go anywhere else and I don't want to file down the rib if I don't have to (unless you guys think it's necessary). i don't really care how it looks as long as it shoots like it's supposed to.

so is it okay to run it this way? any answers will be appreciated and if there's already a thread with this exact same issue with a similar sight rail clamp then yea show it to me

thanks guys

Looks just like mine. I did mount the optic more to the rear of weapon though. I see no other way to get the sight on the rail without being on one of the ribs at some point, the dimensions just won't allow it. I'm running it as is for about 2k rnds. and havn't had any issues nor do I expect any.

thanks. looks like i'll keep it.

i moved it one groove back so the rib sits right in the middle of the clamp so it's not crooked anymore. i was afraid it would pull the sight one way or the other.

okay so I tried to zero it in today.

this is at 7 yards.

I have a new issue- when I move it to 10-11 yards, it starts shooting 3 inches higher.

is there an optimal distance to zero this thing in at? hopefully you guys that actually have this setup can give me a simple answer. my buddy who doesn't shoot 22lr or pistols is showing me ballistics charts and stuff.

I zero mine @ 10yds. This is optimal for me. This puts the bullet about 1" high @ 20yds. I, personally, can't shoot this pistol/optic setup much, if any further than that. The ballistic charts are very useful and give a visual of what the bullet is doing when it leaves the gun. The .22LR is traveling upward to about 45yds before starting it's downward arc, but it really 'flattens' out from 20 to 60yds. 20yd zero will be close to zero @ 60yds (closer than I can shoot 'em) and would be optimal if I could shoot that far, which I can't. The 3" difference you are getting in 3yds doesn't add up on any ballistics chart I have seen. I would try to zero @ 10yds then move back in to 7 yds and see what happens. I apologize if you already know this, but, on a lot of reflex sights, if you change the reticle display the POI will change. Best to pick one and stick with it. Good luck and happy shooting.
