I've only reloaded for about a year for my XDM 9mm and the only powder I've used is Bullseye and seems to be a pretty clean burning powder. Some of the factory loads I used when I first bought the gun did not burn quite as clean. Any other suggestions for you seasoned handgun reloaders?

I like WW231 for target loads and Accurate #5 for mid-range loads. I find both to be pretty clean burning when used with plated and moly coated bullets.

For the 9mm I'd try Herco or Accurate #5, maybe Power Pistol. I've used all three in 40S&W and 45ACP with good results, and my 9mm shooting buddies tell me they really like Herco in the Nine.

Vihtavouri N340 is clean burning and has almost no flash was my preferred powder in 9mm
Hodgdon Universal is clean though I only used it in 40sw didnt get around to using it in 9mm
in 40sw it burns so clean you almost swear the brass has not been shot.
titegroup is cleaner in 9mm than bullseye though not by alot.

powerpistol is better than unique in 9mm titegroup is cleaner than both

It depends on if you want mild, target loads, or, something hotter.

VV320 for mild loads, VV350 for hot. It costs a little more, but is very consistent.

Bullseye is my 'go-to'...love it.

Use Herco sometimes when I want my Glocks to toss the empties further.

I really dont worry about clean burning most of the time.
I figure if the gun can eat a thousand of em without a stoppage its clean enough. that said, some guns pitch fits sooner than others. thats when I go to something out of the clays line.
strangely, you'd think my 1911 would pitch a fit before my pump action shotgun ... nope despite the manual operation of the scattergun its the first one to fowl itself out of the game. I feed it lots of international clays in its target loads.

Same here. Accuracy, availability, cost and versatility come long before "clean". Even with the cleanest burning powders, a firearm needs to be cleaned after shooting. I've yet to have a gun foul in a single outting after being cleaned regardless of powder used and this includes Unique.

my thought as well. elimination of all powders "unclean" often sacrifices performance.

The last couple of years I have been using Power Pistol in both 9mm and 40S&W. It's fairly clean but I've heard it has a lot of flash. Since I shoot outdoors, I don't see the flash. I have been thinking of Win 231/HP38 but haven't tried it.

Give power pistol a shot, has been very clean for me in 9,40,10. Does have some muzzle flash. Used some titegroup just the other day with my wadcutters in 357 and it was pretty dirty with light loads. Often times its not just the powder being dirty but how it's loaded, light loads can be dirty.

BE is like black powder compared to some of the newer powders. In that burn rate range, WST, W231, N320 or Zip all shoot cleaner.

Some powders that are "dirty" at lower pressures can be much cleaner if you up the load. On revolvers a firm crimp can help powders burn cleaner in some cases. So it kind of depends.

I use W231/HP-38 and Longshot for my 9mm ammo and both are clean IMO with W231 being very clean...
