PPC Revolver
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I picked up a sweet rovolver from one of our fellow board members last week. Its a Model 10 modified by Clark Custom Guns for PPC. Shot it today for the first time. What a hoot! Set up a silhouette target @ 15 yds to check zero w/ my reloads. First 12 rds cut a single ragged hole 3" low of the X ring. A dozen clicks +/- on the rear sight & 8" metal plates @ 25 yds were toast! Lets see more of these fabulous guns!

My PPC-ish revolver.
Original 1960's Trooper V-spring, rebarreled by Tom Volquartsen with a stainless 5" Douglas with a heavy target crown, and he did the action.
Custom removable front sight is Tom's also.
Herrett stocks were a "free to a good home" gift from another member on this forum. I wish I could remember his name to give him credit.

I thought PPC guns were Double Action Only? as per the rules, I thought all shooting was DA, I may be wrong though.

Here's my PPC gun. Powers Custom, model 13, Douglas bbl/Bomar sight/rib.
Very accurate and served me well during my PPC days.

Why back when I was doing PPC many of the shooters used SA at the 50 yard line. I figured out long ago it was far better to only shoot one way and did all my shooting DA.
Possibly rules have changed since I stopped PPC but SA capability was in most guns, including what was called “space guns”. When I say all my shooting I even meant hunting took a bunch of deer with my 2 model 29s all shots fired DA.
My PPC gun back then was a Model 28 6'' with Pac grips white outline rear sight and a super slick action job. FWIW I shot master class. Just could not see spending all that money and time wasted to get a hand built “space gun”
For the snubby class I used a Model 15 2'' with the white outline rear sight. Pac grips and a sweet action job, as stated above all shots fired DA.

I too found it easier to learn how to "time" the cylinder and shoot double action only. When Ron made mine, he asked how I shot, DA or SA at the 50. I told him DA only and he cut the spur on the hammer. Worked out fine for me.
I do know that many would shoot SA from the 50, and it was accepted.

I can’t access my Photobucket account right now but here is a link to a thread about the PPC Model 10 I bought earlier this year: Bought a fun blaster last night, old PPC type Mod. 10 I have replaced the grips with some Pac Grippers that fit my hand well and laid in a selection of HBWCs, DEWCs, .38 Brass and Federal SP Match primers. Got a few more speed loaders too. Just need time to load for her. We recently had 3-Gun introduced to our area and I am completely hooked. Between that and USPSA I don’t have much time left to shoot other stuff let alone load. I do really want to shoot some more NRA Action Pistol though and to use the old Model 10. I think it will be legal for Metallic Sight as somebody previously cut the ears (wings) off the front sight. If it don’t want to shoot though I have since also picked up a 6” Model 14 and a Colt Officer’s Model Match that both shoot very well. Funny story on them, I bought them both at the same show and took them right out to the range. I shoot one better SA and the DA but I can’t remember which was which! Oh well, I went from zero to plumb-eat-up with target-grade .38 Special revolvers the first half of 2012! I do love to see an old PPC gun come out and get used, hope you enjoy it!

ppc guns
Heres a few, single action allowed at 50 yrd line only , but most of these type guns have a trigger stop installed that wont allow them to be cocked into single action. Switched to the lighter guns as I have gotten older ,HA!. Bob

i think the older PPC custom guns are some of the best bargains out there. I went through a few of them in the mid 70's to the early 80's, but always came back to my k38 with a bomar rib, a Behlert action job, and a set of Rogers grips. These will hit what you're aiming at, also hard to blame the gun anymore for misses.

teezer,
Love your gun! Who & what finish did you have done to your K38? It appears to be hard chrome of some sort. I think will be the next step for my Clark gun for ease of maintainance & cleaning as well as duribility.
calreb,
Very nice brace of PPC guns. What grips are they wearing?
Regards,
Mark

My weekly shooting buddy 4Barrel has an old PPC gun built by Royce Weddle that he lets me shoot sometimes. It's a joy to admire and shoot.

I shot single action from the 50, it was legal back then, early 90's. I miss that sport, was a blast. Don't think anyone shoots it around here anymore.

i shot in an indoor PPC league at targetworld in cincinnati in the mid 70's to the early 80's. great bunch of people, from a national PPC champion to a 13 year old girl, a good mix of custom guns which almost everybody would swap around so you could try a bunch of combinations.
it was all about that ragged hole

PPC
Another old, retired PPC revolver......S&W model 10 with Apex barrel, a Bo-Mar rib and Hogue grips. Thousands and thousands of rounds later, still shoots very accurate groups.

The shorter bbl gun was made from a long action pre war frame made abt 1908. I had a local gunsmith put it together for me. The other is a model 15 frame made in Piqua Ohio. Both shoot nicely. Larry
