Got my wife and the new 6906 to the range at the same time today.
After she fired 200 rounds of ammo through it she pronounced it a Keeper and Hers. Which is what I was hoping for frankly. After taking her CCW class last year she came away convinced she wanted a Glock 19. I'm not a Glock basher it's just that I have had very limited exposure to them. We delayed the purchase of a side arm specifically for her until she had a chance to try different formats. I'm sure this will not be her last pistol but it's one she seems happy with for the near future. This is my first experience with a 3rd gen S&W and so far I can see why they were popular service sidearms for so long.

Way to go, now you can justify buying one for yourself. The 3rd Gen Smiths are great guns, no matter the caliber, and for the price are real values.
My 6690 is as reliable as any other firearm I've ever owned, and accurate enough to make me look like I know what I'm doing.
Congrats on the 6906 and your Wife, you've got 2 keepers there.

I think the 6906 is one of S&W's crowning achievements. I carried them for years both on duty and off at various times. I added a set of night sights to one and gave it to my wife. Like yours, she fell in love with it.
Warning though, 3rd Gen Smith's are addictive.

Do I have any 3rd Gens in my Gunbroker watch list? I have no recollection Senator. But If I did, it wouldn't matter because I can quit whenever I like.

so are you guys saying that the 6906 is a girls gun while something like the 1076 is a mans gun? I have both but the 10mm makes feel somewhat more manly I guess. I would like to see someone get back up after being hit with a 10mm 200gr hollow point.

I'm 6'1" and weight 196. I own and shoot a 6906 and love it. I don't consider myself a "girley-man".

I have a 6906 and a 908 - Love them both. Neither a single failure to fired, feed, or eject - with any sort of ammo. These are workhorse guns that I'd put up against the best Kimbers & Glocks. Keep your 6906 and your wife forever

I'm also a little surprised how well this pistol carries for her. She has been carrying it walking the dog in a OWB holster and a loose t-shirt over it and you have to know it's there and look hard to see the pistol.
She did have one unpleasant experience with the pistol though. She learned why well endowed women should not wear loose tops at the range.
