A story of two 38/44 HD's
Late last summer my buddy and I were set up at the smallest show we attend. A little show in a little hill country town just West of my home. A young man walks up to my table and asked if I would be interested in an old .38 Special he had for sale. He handed the revolver to me, it was a 4" nickel Heavy Duty serial #S82704, which looked as if it had not been cleaned in years. I asked what he wanted for the gun, and without haggling I paid the man.
When I returned home I requested a shipping date from Mr. Jinks. I was then contacted by our own Bill Patteson (1Aspenhill) who informed me that he owned 38/44 HD serial #S82703, and his revolver letters to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) here in my home town of Austin.
I am now the proud owner of both S82703 and S82704, thanks to Bill Patteson. The factory letter for S82703 states it was shipped November 8 1950 in a shipment of 100 units. Letter for S82704 is pending.
After 62 years these two revolvers are back together.
Thank you Bill Patteson.
The glare on the nickel is from the sun and the trees.

Very nice! It looks like the one you found never strayed very far from it's original home in Austin. Enjoy and thanks for the post & pics,
Jerry

Larry,
They look great together! I am so glad you could put them together again-now you have to track the other 98 down!
Now if you can find out who carried them and if they saw any heavy duty action! Thanks for sharing these!
Bill

That won't happen very often. Congrats and they both look great.
I believe part of the glare is from your ear to ear grin.

What a great pair of matched revolvers! Factory nickel HDs too! You must now get yourself an appropriate double gun BBQ rig to show them off correctly. Nice that you could get them back together again!

That is a great story - about revolvers and collegeality among collectors. Tip of the hat!
My well used nickel 4" APD 54 [890xx] sends it regards.
As do I,
Dyson
