Post 4th of July cooking

Well folks,

What are you doing for the 4th except for drinking a fifth? I just wondered what the group is cooking. After the recent "big cook" holidays, I think that we will just have the traditional 4th of July hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill, along with fresh corn and a churn of home made peach ice cream. The local peaches are the best in years. With the predicted high temperatures and wind, the boat is out, so we will stay inside and watch the fireworks on TV. Unfortunately, my wife is to feeble to do much, but she will enjoy the kids from children to grands to greats.

Have a good holiday and remember what it is all about!

We don't plan that far ahead around here.
On the third we'll figure out something.

and I was impressed. I went to three cookouts in three days and while there were 'burgers and vegiburgers, the main event was BRATS!!! They were not the mass market Johnsonville and their clones but were home grown ones and they were great . A bit heavy on the fat side but we aren't going to get out of here alive .
Wish I could have scheduled it so I was up there this next week. Oh yea, the beer was good and cold!!

Fresh Gulf shrimp, fresh dug potatoes and onions, and fresh pulled sweet corn all boiled in a very large pot with the right amount of seasoning. I'll fry some green tomatoes, yellow squash, and oysters to munch on while the pot is coming to a boil. All followed by tasty adult beverages, fireworks, gunfire, and sirens. The neighbors are worse than I am.

For the first time in several generations it's legal to buy and enjoy fireworks in Maine. I suspect that after all the highbrow folks complain about 'the noise' and the red necks burn the forests down, it will be the last... I'm gonna grill some chicken, drink come cold beer and enjoy the show from my deck.

Nice Iggy... But if you saw where they dig clams and knew what they ate, you'd have your Bugs on a Dirty Rug instead...

'Crawlahs' is cheap up here this year...

Just going to do some tailgating with friends, I suppose, at the local big fireworks. hoping to, anyway. A portable PA system would be nice to blast some Sousa marches over the bump-n-thump car stereos.

Smoking up some ribs and a brisket.
Takes almost no effort.
Start the fire, drink a beer, throw more Hickory on, drink a beer, repete as needed.

We're probably sticking close to home, they have a nice little get together in a park near our place. We live next to a reservation, so the fireworks show has been going on for a month now. Probably invite a few friends, maybe cook a chicken or two.

Oh, and beer. Must have beer, probably a good IPA....

We have been feeding between 30 and 50 people on the 4th for more than 20 years now. My wife showed me the list today, and we had 51 people last year. No beer, no corn squeezins', just plenty of pulled pork, smoked sausage, and desserts and side dishes. I cook a case of butts and 10-15 lbs of cheap smoked sausage. I don't really know how we got started doing this, but it is the high point of the year for several family members, so I can't hardly quit doing it.

The thing is, everybody is welcome. Somebody new shows up just about every year. Y'all want to make the drive, message me for directions. One-hundred miles South of the Atl.
