I'm back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well, last Friday, the 30th of June, I was sitting at the computer when the windstorm hit. The power went out and didn't come back on until yesterday at noon, July 6th.
I have a good Chinese built 5000 watt generator that kept the ice box cold, fans running, and the microwave operating. Unfortunately, I haven't wired the well pump yet.
I have a good strong spring in the back of the property, but it was easier to buy bottled water in gallon jugs. I took the truck down to the creek to get water for toilet flushing.
Fortunately, gas was down to $2.97 a gallon, 'cause that generator used about 8-10 gallons a day.
The worst part was sleeping in a hot bedroom at night.
Sure am glad to be back on the Forum.

Welcome back. Glad you made it through with cool drinks, fans and flushing toilet. Sleeping in hot bedrooms are the pits, aren't they?

They say what don't kill ya makes you stronger. Glad you're back.
We had a hurricane blow thru southern Indiana back about 2006. Knocked out our power for 4 days. I have a small Honda generator that would run either the refrig or the freezer so I'd switch back and forth every few hours. We didn't lose city water but had no hot water and the nights weren't too bad as we stayed in the basement.

Glad to see you're back up and going. Funny how acustomed we've become to creature comforts, myself included. Was reading an article in the paper the other day about the outages back east. The reporter interviewed a woman 'bout my age from W.Va and asked her how she was managing without electricity. She allowed she was doing OK. She was a 'holler girl' and was used to outdoor privies and hauling water. Did it everyday growing up. Slept out in the yard on warm nites. Of course she also admitted she'd be glad when the electricity was back.

Welcome back brother. You were in the same boat as my in-laws. They are in greater Leesburg, and had a terrible go if it.

Glad you have electricity again. Doing without is no fun. About three years ago we lost ours for days because of ice. Made it for several days with the generator then it quit so we went to our daughters in Weatherford where they had missed the storm. Hope you have no more problems.

Man you had it bad. Ours went out last Friday up here in WV but we got it back about 30 hours later. Poor folks across the road are still running generators. We are sitting on the city side of the city/county line.

Solar panels don't always work without power off the grid, depending on what setup you have. Our house has 60 panels and makes what we use for the year. The house is about 3000 sq. ft. with multiple roof mounted ac units. We run three inverters, but no batteries or generator.
We could probably flip the main breaker to the house and wire in a generator to trick the inverters into coming on line, but I don't know if the frequency of a generator would be steady enough for the inverters to sync to it, and to do it right would require a safety switch at the power meter. Our inverters shut off when they loose city power, to prevent sending power into a dead grid.
Some of my neighbors have a system off the grid with a few batteries, and do quite well in a small house with just two of them.

Welcome back Gil . I'm up the road a piece in Floyd County. Here at the house we never lost power. At the farm seven miles away, we are still without and have to haul water for the horses.
Maybe tomorrow.....
