Chief Special?
Which is (more) correct? Chief Special or Chief's Special, when referring to J frames such as models 36 & 60. I have seen both names used but recall a picture of an old red box with Chief Special printed on the end. I also think Chiefs Special was used for an autoloader model.

I think all my boxes and instruction sheets for Models 60 and 36 use "Chiefs".
Without the apostrophe and with the "s".

The factory says "Chiefs Special".

The gun was introduced at the 1950 conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Roy Jinks' book says the company asked the assembled chiefs to vote on a name. They picked "Chiefs Special," in honor of the whole pack of 'em. It saved the extra expense of adding the apostrophe stamp.

Agreed, it's plural not possessive. No apostrophe.
