Curses, I hate being ignored when I find a 3rd gen.
Found a 4013TSW no rail at Cabelas, a little pricey at $599, but I wanted to see how it fit my hand, and maybe try to work a deal and put it on lay away. I could then have it as a "mini-me" to my 4003, Kind of like my M&P9c and FS M&Ppro. The side I could see in the case looked GREAT. This is the first time I have seen one in person since they were still making them back years ago, and is one of my attainable "grail" guns.
So there is just me and another guy in the gun library, he was being taken care of trying to sell a gun to them. So I wait, at least 20 min, then when he doesn't make a deal he has to get walked out with the gun so I wait some more. Just as they are walking out another guy comes in to try to sell a gun.
I think nothing of it, because obviously I'm next, the salesguy saw me waiting by the cabinet the whole time and I was the only other person in there until guy number 3 came in.
So he comes back and starts to take care of guy number 3.
I have run out of time because I can't wait another 20+ minutes to MAYBE get helped, because I had to leave.
With my luck the next time I get a chance to get up there, it'll be gone.
Maybe it's a sign.. LOL

I get that in lots of places, maybe some of us are just invisible. In any case, no more Mr. Nice Guy for me when it happens.

The appropriate action for a customer in this situation is one of two things. Either say, "Excuse me, I've been waiting for service" or go find the manager.

you should try being more assertive sir. clerks don't make much money and they seem to enjoy dicking people around.

Another good reason to visit your LGS and get to know the owner &/or
sales people. Once you have established a relationship with them and they know what you like they will show you that stuff as soon as you enter the store. They may even call you to tell you about their latest 1006 or 4513 trade in. Try this, I have bought 3 such pistols in 3 months because the sales man, one of my new best friends, shows them to me as soon as I stop by. Every body will be happy.

Believe it or not but I just picked one up last Friday from my LGS. It was from a guys collection and he was getting rid of all of his .40S&W's caliber guns. This thing looks like it has never been shot, brand new not a mark on it, original box and 3 mags, and a pre-rail 4013TSW. It shoots like a dream and best of all only $390.00

1st Rule of S&W Acquisitions;the only time we find a 3rd gen is when we cant afford it. The sales staff knew better than to drag it out.

Two things, First he was probably a former gander mountan employee.(you can be the only guy at the counter and get the same treatment from 6 sales clerks). and second KARMA DUDE on your next LGS trip ther will be the same model with the box and an s load of spare mags for 150.00 less. I'm off to the cabelas in Pa this weekend myself up there they allmost bend over backwards to help you.

While I certainly can't defend what happened that was quite a leap and a pretty foolish statement. I work in a large gun retailer and certainly would take no pleasure in creating a unhappy customer. Quite the opposite, I try very hard to please my customers as do my fellow workers.

My local Cabelas gun counter is usually so busy with people that if you want help with anything you have to take a number and wait for it to be called! That's where I got my last 3rd Gen too.

I had the same experience at the Bass Pro in Peoria a couple of weeks ago. It actually happened to me twice at the same store so they won't have to worry about me spending any money EVER there again. Managers are non-existent and Bass Pro corporate wasn't interested either.
I was wanting to look at a sub-compact 9 or .40. There were 3 salesmen talking at the opposite end of the counter...just b-s'ing. The one saleman looked at me as I stood directly in front of the counter. I nodded my head in his direction and he just went back to talking. I understand that if you are in the middle of something to finish with a couple of sentences and then go to a customer so I remained. No dice, they just kept talking so I walked away after a couple of more minutes.
The second time was about a 2 weeks later. Just 2 salesmen this time but they were both talking about the Cubs. I just stood there patiently but not interested in helping me. So I just left.
I guess Bass Pro is so over-priced that if they have a couple of customers, they cover the loss of business from the rest of us.
BTW, in their flyer this week, their prices on the same weapon that I bought from Sandy at Discount Sales in Havana was $20 higher at Bass Pro. She caters to local people and duck hunters as her father had for 40 years. I paid less in sales tax and didn't have to waste the gas to drive up there twice to pay for and then pick up 3 days later.

I love our LGS's.
The Gun broker, east and west side. The Northwest Armory. Al's Gun Shop.
Every one of them is very attentive. You're met at the door with a " how are you today" and " can I help you ". And if you're in there enough like me they get to know you and the greating is more personal.
You can always be politely more assertive.
