Default M&P 9c alternative takedown

Hello all!
I just bought a M&P 9c the other day and noticed that in order to disassemble it you're supposed to use the sear deactivation lever. But I found out that I can take it down similar to other pistols by pulling the trigger as the slide goes forward. Would this damage it in anyway? I can do it no problem.
If I'm being unclear: (lock slide to rear, rotate takedown lever, release slide, pull trigger, then slide slides off.)

Sorry if this is a stupid question, this is my first pistol.
Thanks in advance!

I just pull the trigger myself, I don't bother with the lever.

You can pull the trigger. The deactivation lever is recommended by S&W as a safety precaution. Just be sure there's no round in the chamber .

Although the Glocks as well as other weapons can be broken down by pulling the trigger, Smith and Wesson can also but it is highly suggested that you use the procedure of moving the sear deactivation lever and then breaking down your gun.

This is for legal reasons and in order to take down your weapon you definitely must inspect your chamber as well as the magazine well. It is written by lawyers to keep the company from being sued due to a negligent discharge of your gun because there was a round chambered and you pulled the trigger while someone else was at the other end of the muzzle that got shot.

Personally I take down the weapon with the sear deactivation lever, it is not that big a deal and the only time I pull the trigger on any of my guns I expect them to fire a round, not let me break down my weapon!

I wonder if this was "required" just to be different enough from Glock not to get sued? (*laugh*)

I just pull the trigger on mine to remove the slide, just like a Glock.

You just need to double check to make sure the chamber is empty.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have a problem with either one, it's just using the trigger is slightly faster.

If your M&P has a mag disconnect safety you have to use the lever.
