S&W Governor Making Noise
I shot with my Governor today and noticed that something sounds loose in the gun. If i have the barrel aimed to the floor and start to raise the barrel i eventually hear a sliding type noise and some clicking. If I shake the gun i also hear some clicking noises. If I have the hammer cocked back, i don't hear the sliding noise when raising the barrel, but do hear some clicking noises.
I have heard that newer hammer blocks make some noise, but wanted to see if anyone else on the forum has heard these noises from their Governors. The noises are not coming from the cylinder but somewhere near the hammer. I tightened the ejector and have actually held it in and still get the same noises.
I shot 200 rounds of 45ACP through the gun and it shot flawless and accurate.
Thank You

Thank you Dragon88. I was hoping that the noise was normal. Thanks for the video.

No problem, enjoy your gun and post some pics when you have a chance. Also, I forgot to say, welcome to the forum.

I'm sitting here at my computer shaking my Model 10-6 like a damned fool and I don't hear a single thing. Maybe my hearing is starting to go.

I went to the safe and compared rattling in a few of my guns when I answered earlier. It certainly varies with each gun. My 10-6 gave very little rattle. My far more "experienced" 65-3 gave me the sound I was looking for when I shook it.
Something which actually makes a more noticeable noise is if the cylinder has a little side to side play. The cylinder can clearly be heard slapping the bolt if you shake the gun laterally. Again, it's different for every gun.
If you honestly hear no rattle and you don't know the full history of your gun, clear the gun, cock the hammer, and look down between the hammer and frame for the hammer block. A previous owner or "gunsmith" may have lost or removed it.

Hey guys, I am the first owner of the Governor and this is just the second time shooting it. I did put about 100 rounds through it today, I need a speed loader, my fingers hurt.
My 686 no dash I have makes a very faint rattle noise when shaking, nothing like this Governor.
I added some pictures of my 686, I bought it with the wear on the finish and some old rubber grips. I bought new grips and Cleaned it up with some mothers polish and a rag.

I had a similar issue but my Governor locked up and rattled. I opened it up and found the hammer block broke and the top part wedged into the rebound slide. went back to S&W and is due home today by Fedex. I am finding many posts on the web about broken hammer blocks.

I would pull the side plate off and see if everything looks ok inside.
Video here shows how to do it.

If you dont feel comfortable doing it you could always ask a gunsmith to do it for you.
