Ordered 10K primers. Did the same before the last Presidential election and had no regrets.

This (issue) is like waiting for the gas gauge in your car to drop below 1/4, then start worrying about reaching the next gas station.
Simple rule of thumb: Ask yourself how much ammo do you anticipate reloading in the next 12 months. Then restock your supply of components to this level. One less thing to worry about.

I am good on everything but maybe should get some more projectiles, there may still be room in the garage

(no I am not casting lead as it's too damn hot, humid and no source of free lead, thank you all)

That works when stuff is available. Remember 2009 when primers were not available and if you found some they were $40 per K? At the time I was glad I stocked up at $18 per K in 2008. The $25 per K delivered I paid today seemed high but I suspect before they are gone it will seem a bargain.

Having components is just having peace of mind.

Being totally honest, we are our own worst enemy. After the 2008 election, all of the shortages were the result of panic buying. This turns out to be for a threat that never materialized.

I am hopeful that regardless of the 2012 election results the reaction will be less severe. Surely many reloaders are stocked up for quite a period due to the panic buying. But I admit to buying during 2012 in anticipation of the election results.

So good you for you in buying in anticipation of reduced supply. Hopefully others also followed your lead.

The stuff will not get any cheaper, so buying in bulk is never a waste of money.

In 10 years I suspect not many will be able to AFFORD to shoot.

Yep, it's deja vu all over again LGS is sell AK's and AR's like they did before, folks stocking ammo for them also.

I think I am gonna take up the bow and arrow and buy a black powder blunderbuss so I can shoot rocks and nails.

Be sure it is a flintlock so you can use a piece of rock to fire it. A caplock takes those expensive, new fangled caps and they may git scarce. Larry

I already have all I need. I was lucky enough to have bought plenty of primers before the last "shortage" in 2008. I would love to say I was it coming but I didn't. I was only being cheap. When I saw the prices going up I bought a little more when I was a sale. Instead of buying 1000 I bought 2000 or 3000 instead. I ended up having plenty during the shortage and didn't have to spend $40 to $100 per K. Over the past 3 years I replaced what I used when I found a sale. I will not hoard or panic buy but then again, I have no reason to panic.

I heard stories of some people ordering 100,000 primers or more at a time last shortage! Really?? 100,000 primers! (and no, nor for a group buy, for personal stock)

Componets on the shelf are an asset. The prices have risen much faster than the interest/inflation rate. Primers are very easy to sell, powder and bullets, not near as easy, brass verys. I lost my job 4 years ago and needed csah, I sold every unopened brick and case of primers I had to my LGS at what he pays the distributer,43K primers paid my heat for all of that winter and a third of the next (firewood). I still have some of that group of primers (the old 90's price was in majic marker) and was trying to be 2 to 3 years out in primers. Powder on the other hand is harder to predict witch load you'll be shooting in the future. Your basic 223 or 45 load probably won't change, but tha that majic varmint or target load or gun can change. I try to make sure I have brass, bullets, and powder for next years practice and compition. Thats about 700-800 for long range and 2000-2500 for cowwboy, and about 3000 for clays. That's about 6000 a year, that's down from when the kids shot with me often (think almost double). T there is plinking and the wife's and my CCW practice- another 2000 or 3000 a year. So buying 10,000 primers a year is not that big of deal. No, I haven't made it to 3 years supply yet, but I am beyond next years use. Ivan

Default A donation to the NRA-ILA is not a bad idea either.

If everybody chipped in say, the price of a thousand primers to the NRA institute for legislative action every once in a while. Then maybe we could all sleep a little better at night.

I'm a lifetime member and I still send them money but the real problem is, while there are ~4 Million NRA members about 95% of gun owners are not members. That's only 1 in 20 and those are not good numbers. The NRA does a lot of good work protecting our gun rights with money collected from 4 Million members, can you imagine how much could get done if all 80 Million gun owners would do their part too? The yearly membership is only $35 and can be had for $25 with help from a bunch of online sources including Shooting USA. Come one people, for $25, the price of only one box of good ammo you can help keep our gun rights. Here Is The Link where Shooting USA will put in $10 of your membership and it will cost you only $25. Money well spent everyone, just do it! You get a magazine every month for a year with the membership. You get to choose from 3 different mags... DO IT!

If I could afford to buy 100K at a time I would and not look back. I wish I had bought much more when they were $12K and powder was $12-15. It will never be any cheaper so I look at it as an investment in a product that you will use and be buying anyway.

Heck a couple 100K primers and powder for them might be a better retirement vessel then a 401K....

You guys got me all whipped up into a lather....

Bought another 1,000 Large Pistol and another 1,000 Small Rifle. These were the hardest to find during the last scare.

Paid $70 OTD.

I do....just as I do for the 2nd Ammendment Foundation, Knife Rights, and the Arizona gun lobby group I belong to, the AZ Citizen's Defense League.

And I agree, I wish more folks would support the organizations that are supporting them.

To keep this on topic, I stumbled across a LGS going out of business in late 2008. I picked up CCI primers for $10 per thousand.
