Default Testing trigger weight on an SW1911 Pro?

My SW1911 Pro (178011) is listed as having a 4 – 4-1/2 lb. Smooth Trigger Pull, according to the glossies. My question is, how does one test trigger pull weight? Is there a trigger pull testing jig one can purchase? Do I simply buy a luggage scale, wrap a string around the trigger, and pull 'til it goes "click"?

I'm having no problems with my buttery smooth trigger. I'm just curious how the experts and gunsmiths test trigger weight.

Thanks!

- Dave

Dunno about the "experts" & gunsmiths, but as an armorer, to get the most accurate reading I use the stacked weights. (Some instruction & experience is necessary for an accurate reading.) This is the tool I'd use as an armorer to inspect a handgun's trigger pull weight in response to an official inquiry.

I'll use the Lyman digital for "quick & dirty" averaged ranges.

I imagine licensed gunsmiths have their own preferences and reasons for same.

Examples of different types from a commercial source ... Brownells Search : Search Results for "trigger pull weights" - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools - BROWNELLS

Thanks for the detailed reply, Fastbolt!

The Lymon Digital Trigger Pull Gauge seems like just the reasonably priced ticket for me to do my own quick tests.

UPDATE: I just bought one for $56 through Amazon.com. Thanks again for the suggestion!
