Default 44 HE transitional find

Found a 44 spl HE at local gun show from a forum member that I had not previously meet. It was a good day. So is it one of the following or all of the below.

Military Model of 1926
Pre 21
44 transitional
3rd model Hand Ejector 44 spl.

# S 687xx.

Loaded up a box of 6.5g Unique behind a 250g keith SWC last night. As soon as the rain lets up....

Charlie, that's a cherry-looking revolver, and pretty rare; they only made 1400 of them.
You sure you want to shoot it??
I have S 68008, a 5-inch transitional, which shipped in August, 1946.

Good on ya Charlie!
Very similar to mine. I hope you paid less...
Great guns and preliminary results tell me #S68885 (Aug 1946) is going to be a dandy shooter.

Steven-

I'm missing something here. Is the Feb., 1926 gun the lower one in the photos? Did you mean 1946? Or is this just a different gun than your 1926 one? Given its looks and grips and gold box, this doesn't seem like a 1926-made example.

But I sometimes just miss something. I'm quite sure that you know what you're talking about.

VERY nice guns, BTW. Congratulations on scoring those.

Wrong photo and wrong date, Star... Nice of you to think I know what I'm talking about, though???? Forgot the S too!!!
I was in the middle of a rust bluing cycle and the large tank of water was boiling away while it's 95 outside.
In another bluing/boiling cycle right now (#5 of six or seven), hope things are corrected above.
I posted the ship date for this recently acquired 2cd Model, Feb 1926... #25806 no S.

S 68885 should be in the 1947-48 shipping dates.

February 1926 would be a 2nd Model .44 Hand Ejector, probably in the #25xxx range.

Steve - I doubt I paid less than you, but I like it anyway. BTW, I think you got my box.

thanks John. Yeah, I shot a couple cylinders full today - the 6.5g unique "felt" about right. The end of the bbl has some blue loss, couple freckles on the side plate ( that's rust for you non collectors), and a pretty good ding on the left grip bottom edge.

But its all original, all numbers match including the grips. I really like it. Roy says Nov '47.

You left one out Charlie,
A very nice example of S&W workmanship and
a beautiful revolver. Great catch.

Charlie, They are really great revolvers and I feel privileged to own one. I sold numerous lesser guns and am trying to bring the head-count down but the quality up a notch or two. I found the box on eBay, and it wasn't cheap either, I'd be glad to swap it to you but it isn't numbered to either of our guns.
I do prefer .44s and have several dating from 1908 to 1984, 4" to 6 1/2" and enjoy them all!
Do you like the belt?
Best,
steve

That post-war (in serial only) 1926 is beautiful. I rarely get envious of guns but I would take that one.
