Default Trouble Loading a S&W 48-4 Cylinder

A question for the board experts.

On the first cylinder load on a S&W 48-4, the 22 magnum rounds drop easily into the cylinder chambers.

After the first cylinder, I start having trouble dropping the 22 magnum rounds into at least one of the six chambers. It takes a little push to insert the round fully into the chamber. After the fourth cylinder load, all the rounds need a slight push to fully seat the round.

From my search on this website, it appears that this is normal for a S&W 48..

Just wanted to see if there were any solutions, other than cleaning.

The revolver is a good shooter.

Thanks,

Hoover

I would suggest trying different brands of ammo.
That would be after a good brushing of the chambers.

My 48-4 is ammo sensative.

The only ammo that shoots without problems is Winchester Dynapoints.

It is also the least expensive .22 mag available.

Otherwise plan on brushing the chambers after about 18 rounds.

Be sure to eject cases with the gun pointed up.

Bruce

BTW I actually had a lot# of Federal ammo which would not chamber at all in my gun.

It would chamber in a single six. Out of spec ammo as another lot# chambered just fine.

Thanks.

I have tried many different brands/types and all were sticky after a couple of cylinders.

And you are correct, the Dynapoints were better but did not really group well.

Thanks,

this is an occupational hazard with the model 48. some will shoot several cylinders without a problem and some won't. luck of the draw.

I too have that problem with my model 48. I guess I'm glad its not just my gun. works best with dynapoints also.
