If you are willing to spend it and you want the gun it doesn't matter what the rest of us think.
But I would look to pay about $700 or so for such a gun. I think one could be found in that range. A grand is top of the price range and I don't like to start there.

I just purchased a 4" blue 29-5 with original box, tools and doc's. in excellent condition, not a mark or defect in the finish, except for improper grips for $755 on GB. I thought I got a fair deal, not great, but fair.
As others have said, it depends on how bad you want one. They are to be found in the $700 - $800 range.

It may be worth it for you, but not anyone else. As long as you are happy with what you spend your money on....don't matter what others think anyway. Good luck with your purchase.

$1000 is probably the top end, and the M29-2 would have to be a top end piece to command that price. Box, tools, proper stocks, etc. I think others have said it best, probably too much, but I have overpaid for Smiths I really wanted, so do what you feel comfortable doing.

I think for a 6 inch that is the top of the price chart even if it was an S serial number with all the goodies. Now if was a 4 inch that was mint with all the goodies that would be a better deal but still at the top of the price range.

I've bought three 29-2s this year. A 6" at $700. a 6 1/2" at $750 and an 8 3/8" at $600. All were in like new condition with out any goodies. Hope this helps you decide.

About 8 hrs. ago I paid $700. for a nickel, 4 in., 29-2. Doesn't seem to have been shot much but some people would want the finish to be in better shape. I'm pretty hard on stuff so it suits me. Figure ordering one and paying shipping and FFL fees or going to several gun shows with admission and $4. gas I don't think I got burnt too bad. The main thing is I didn't have to borrow the money and I got the gun. Larry

That's priced about where my LGS would price it, and they probably would get it or close to it.
But 29-2's seem to be pretty common around here. I've bought two this year in private sales, a 4" and a 6 1/2 (nickel) for about $750.00 each (trades were involved).

29-3
I have a really nice 29-3 6" barrel that I would sell to you for 700.00. I don't shoot it and not being stainless I don't want to scratch it up. No box or papers just gun.

I am sure prices spiked temporarily after Dirty Harry aired
on MGM HD Tv last week. Pete
Really--the 29 has been a popular gun for many years and will
remain so!

i just picked up a used 29-2 with the 8/38'' bl. blued, only the gun nothing else for $600 in very good shape, some bluing loss but tight and clean. for me it is a nice shooter grade gun, i feel that for a shooter, 500 to 700 is about all i would pay. look on "auction arm" also.

Look around, there are deals to be made. I picked this unfired 29-2 up at a farm auction for $400.00. I wanted one for a long time but didn't want to spend a fortune to get it. Just be ready when the opportunity presents itself. Good luck.

But as some of the other members mentioned as long as you are happy with what you get for what you pay thats all that matters.

1000 is high IMO. I picked up a 29-3 8 3/8 2 weeks ago for $500 out the door. 90% range. No box or papers. Shoots like a million bucks, holds 10 ring at 50 yards, even with me behind the trigger. . Good luck on your search. As others have said keep looking and be ready to hop on a good deal when you find it.

I picked up a 6" nickel 29-4 for 725.00 W/box and tools no paperwork
oh and the grips where pacs gun near new.
A -2 just as clean blue or nickel Id expect locally to be a tad higher 825-850. A NIB-2 I would expect to be close to a grand. I am still searching for a 4" or less 29 or 629, one will abound
good luck keep us posted don't forget pics

I just got an S series 1962 29-2 which is about 92-95% with nice orignal Cokes. 6.5 inch barrel .No box.
I paid around 750.00 toatl for it at my LGS.
The owner told me that he was giving me a real deal .
In Northern Ca, ANY 29-2 six incher , with some honest wear will bring 600.00 in hearbeat. And goes up and up from there.
On another hand, there is a minty 29-2 6.5 inch. at the same shop. N series with walnut box and all the stuff for 800.00 + Tax .
