Default Charlie Sherrill...M&M Auction

Charlie,

Have you had an opportunity to go out on Hiway 49 and visit the Martin & Martin Gun Auction for this weekend?

I looked at 10 pages on the Internet and all the handguns seem to be .22 cal from lots of makers I do not know.

Thanks for info.

The auction is less than two miles from my house. I looked at the stuff on their website and it looks like mostly junk, unless you like cheap .22's and .25's. There are a couple of items of interest and all the stuff for sale is not always on line. Viewing will start at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. I'll go look in person some time tomorrow.

That said, this one is gonna be a little different. M&M got their own FFL and bought out the inventories of several law enforcement agencies meaning most of this stuff is seized guns. The general public will be able to bid on these items with a $25.00 Nics checks taking place for the non-FFL's who may win a bid. This is on top of a 10% buyers premium. Not sure about sales tax. Here's the math: $100.00 item +$10.00 (10% buyers premium)+$25.00 NICs check/ transfer fee=$135.00. What could have been a decent bid now turns into a not so decent final price, and even more if a sales tax is added. As I said, I'm not sure about the tax.

The general public was not allowed to bid at the last auction, only FFL's. A rep from Gander Mountain showed up and bought a very large portion of the inventory for very high prices. I have no reason to believe he won't be back. I predict there won't be as many FFL's at this auction because of that. I'm gonna go look at the stuff tomorrow and probably go to the auction for a while Saturday to see which way the wind is blowing. The auctions by the previous owners had lot's of old police inventories with old rare guns for good prices. That stuff is pretty much gone except for an occassional isolated department with a few nice things. I'm going but I'm not excited and I probably won't stay for the whole auction.

I just went back and looked at all items on their web site. They might be able to do 120 items and hour on a good day if nothing breaks down. Looks to me like a two part auction or they will run late into the night. Mixed in with all the junk are a few nice pieces that will probably go high. Anybody want to look google Martin & Martin Auctions Brooklyn, Ms.

Many 22s from R&G, a company set up in Florida to make a duplicate of an
IMPORTED German "SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL" that the IMPORTATION of was outlawed
by the GCA 1968. Basically they were JUNK I do believe.

I see that they have a "VERY RARE" CTG revolver listed at lot #1505.

You can see it here: C.T.G. LONG Auction | C.T.G. LONG for Sale Online

It's been a long time since I've seen a CTG Long for sale. Hope one of the members here is able to snag that one.

Send Charlie a check and he will get his son to print a bill of sale for you because Charlie does not know how to use a word processor.

I'm sure they'd sell you the Brooklyn Bridge but you'd have to come and get it.

The auction starts at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. They have 1144 guns. They can usually sell 70-80 an hour so the auction will run into the night. The stuff I'm interested in won't even come up for sale until close to dusk so I will go to the Mobile show and then come back and hope a lot of folks have already spent all their money. Out of all those guns there are really only four or five that I would bid on.

I'm waiting for Jr. to get off work and then we'll go by the auction, place a few absentee bids, and let it ride. The auction will probably still be going on when we get back and we'll check on it then. I've got comfortable shoes for the Mobile show.

AUCTION REPORT! They sold 1144 guns. The first five hours were junk, RG's, Ravens, Lorcins, etc. Jr. put in an absentee bid on an old 32-20 Smith. It got sold bunched with a bunch of junk guns for $55.00. His bid that got lost was for $200.00. They lost money on that one. Machine Gun Mike also did an absentee bid on a USAF model 15. After we raised hell for losing Jr.'s bid we made sure they found Mike's bid before it came up. He was set up at the Jackson gun show and couldn't be there. He won it for $250.00. You're welcome Mike. I focused on five guns to bid on. I won one of them, a model 64 no dash pencil barrel with matching grips. Jr. did the same and won a model 631 .32 magnum with a 4" barrell. We missed a few things, such as a model 38 Smith that sold for $110.00. I didn't bid on it because I hadn't looked at it because I already have one and didn't know if this one was messed up or not. There were only a few bargains. The rest of the stuff was way overpriced. I saw one guy who bought 50 RG's in bunches of five. He had about $10-15 each in them. He was later seen in the parking lot (not by me) selling them for $30.00 to $40.00 each no questions asked. A real nice 1938 Luger went for $1600.00 + $160.00 buyer's premium + $25.00 transfer fee+ $112.00 sales tax...out of my league. The auction people did do one nice thing. They had a bunch of BB guns and didn't know how to price them so they gathered up a bunch of kids with parents at the show and gave them to them.

I bet some of those $10 ravens will be transfered up north to liberal yankee lands and turned in for $100 gift cards. Do it for the children.
