Early 44 Magnums, but not S&Ws
I have always been interested in Ruger 44 Magnums and one of my first 44s was a Ruger Super Blackhawk I purchased in Missoula, MT in 1968 (you could not find a Model 29!!). Over the years, I have acquired a small collection of Ruger Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks and thought I would share these three with you. The 10-inch was shipped in August 1959, the 7 1/2-inch in May 1959, and the 6 1/2-inch in the second month of production, December 1956. Each is fitted with a rare pair of factory ivory grips that I acquired over the years.

Those are absolutely beautiful! It is hard to beat the early flat top 44's for simple beauty!

Does anyone have a SA .44 Mag Herter's Powermag? I know they existed, but have never seen one. They were also chambered in .401 and .357 Mag.

My first Ruger revolver was a Redhawk that was bought in 1980.
I couldn't get the trigger pull the way I wanted after replacing the spring. The revolvers used a single spring for both the hammer and the trigger, and this meant that the force required to pull the trigger was higher than similar offerings from other manufacturers, and there was no way to adjust or correct this as it was inherent in the single-spring design. I sold the Ruger that same year and bought a Smith & Wesson 629.

Wow, that is a VERY nice collection of early Ruger's, and the ivory grips makes them all but irreplaceable, in today's market.

My brother worked for Herters when he was just out of college in the early '70s. He has one of each of these, with matching serial numbers for each caliber, only the prefix was different. They were made in Germany by Sauer. Nice well made guns, but just kind of odd.
