Default Pre M27's and their front sights

I have seen so many configurations of these models. I own a 1953 and 1954 which have pins holding the sights in place. Both are the 3 1/2" barrel. I have found a 1952 with the 3 1/2" barrel and it is not pinned. The barrel serial number matches the frame, so one would think it is original. Could someone tell me when and why it might be this way? Thanks in advance for your posts.

It is pinned but the pins have been polished flat before bluing at the factory.
In the period of your guns te factory used both flush pins and and exposed pins and no one knows why for sure.

Some speculate that a sight with exposed pins was installed after the gun and sight were blued separately. Because some blued in place sights with flush pins would have a tendency to seep rust at the joint due to trapped moisture or who knows why.
