Default Finally found my P&R 66-1...a few questions

I finally have the revolver I've been searching for...a 4" P&R 66-1. I purchased from a brick and mortar store through their online sales department after seeing two photos and being told by a sales guy that she was in good condition. After receiving the revolver, I inspected her (using the same technique posted in FAQ/Stickies) and she locks up tight.

However...I have a few questions (please refer to the photos attached).

1) What is the number on the crane? I know the number on the yoke is the Serial Number (believe this dates her to be a 1981) but have no idea the significance of the crane number. I actually was concerned that the numbers didn't match at first until I inspected my 681 and 60-10 to find that none of their serial numbers match the number on their crane.

2) Is this a semi-target hammer?

3) Is this a target trigger?

4) The non pinned front sight has a dovetail red insert. Was this a factory option? Or was this done afterwards?

5) What is the height of the rear sight? There is no white outline and I think I'm going to have to pick one up.

Thanks or any help. I now own a J, K, and L Frame. Refusing to purchase a N frame for fear of my wife growling at me!

Its a .375 " hammer, could be called semi target(which is .500).Not a target trigger, but is standard grooved service trigger;red ramp was factory standard in most M66's, except very early ones.Rear sights on most 66-1s were black as white outline as standard came later. Height was .146 on 4". Crane number is an assy number.

The crane number means nothing - just for assembly purposes
No - those are not target trigger or hammer on your model 66
The red insert was factory standard
The rear sight blade is a .106 according to my armorer's manual

I've been told by others on this Forum that target triggers and hammers as well as trigger stops are fairly unusual on 4" Model 66s. That said, my first S&W was a 4" Model 19 (-3, I believe) that had the target trigger and hammer. I sold the gun 30 years ago and don't recall if it had a stop or not.

Above is my 4" 66-2 that has all three and according to what I've been able to determine via the SCoSW and its box, that is the way it was manufactured. But from what I've been able to learn from the more knowledgeable folks on here, those goodies were more common on 6" guns.

Thanks for all the responses. So are the "official terms" a "Service Trigger" and "Semi Target Hammer"?
