Default 327 Federal

I have a Smith Model 632 in 327 Federal. Mine is from the Performance Center. I guess that that model has been dropped. So am I correct that the only 327 Smith now makes is from their Pro Series?

Anyone know how popular this cartridge has turned out to be?

I think it is a great caliber.I also have a 632.
I have converted a Ruger Single six birdshead into 327 mag.
Now I am building a 4 inch S/W K frame into 327 mag . one they should have built.
I can now shoot 5 diffrent calibers in my single six.
Great idea for sure and fun to shoot.

What did you have to do to convert the single six?? I only got 8 of them in 32 magnum. I have two 16-4's that I converted and S&W is really missing the mark not having a K frame or L frame in the 327 caliber.
Sadly here is my solution: The Ruger in 327 is on top with Alan harton Bisley conversion. Three pounds of american steel!!
The USFA in 32-20 got sent back to factory and now has a 327 cylinder also!!

You're in good company, locodriver999. I'm currently having a 4" Model 617 barrel rebored to .314" groove diameter and a Model 617 cylinder rebored to 327 Fed Mag. They will be fitted to a Model 66 no dash to become "Project 616, the gun S&W should have made, but never did!" I think this is the ultimate use of a K-frame S&W.

Their webpage is still showing both the 3" carry comp and the 2.125 pro series. The 3" is also a pro series but is not marked on the gun like the other. It is listed on their page as pro series.

What length is the performance center version? I've never seen it listed, I would be interested in one.

On my Ruger I just reamed the cylinders for 327 mag I shoot the Federal factory ammo as well as reload with Lil Gun for it.
I am using a 4 inch S/W as a base gun lined with a 32-20 insert in the barrel and a K-22 cylinder reamed to 327 mag. Going to be my pinecone shooter when I am done.
I think S/W missed the boat here .
But Winchester missed the boat with the 94 in 454 Casull that I have used for 10 years now?

Just as a heads-up for your consideration, LD, both Hamilton Bowen and Andy Horvath advised strongly against relining a K-frame barrel for full power 327 Fed Mag loads due to strength issues. They advised (and I'm using) a re-bored Model 617 barrel which is a little hard to come by, or in blued versions a Model 17 or 18 barrel depending on your wishes. Again, just a FYI.

Back to what you have already done... would you mind sharing load and performance data on those Lil Gun™ loads you are using in your Ruger? I'm going to be looking for cast bullet loads for bullet weights in the 95, 115, and 125 grain ranges.

Regards,
Froggie

Default Hello Green Frog

On my 19 barrel we drilled out the current bore and turned down a chunk of 32-20 winchester barrel as a liner for the 327.
I have shot many of the 327 loads without any problem as of yet.
I like the 87 grain bullets for faster loads but also use the Winchester 32-20 hand tool mold for the cast bullets that seem to make a 125 grain cast bullet. .
I use the Lil Gun for my cast bullets and Unique for the lite 87 grain pills.
Fun little gun for sure.

This is a truly versatile chambering and I can't believe it's not more popular. Lately I've been seeing more and more ammunition for it in several of the larger sporting goods stores so the demand must be out there. The 632 is such a neat revolver I bought one in spite of the lock which I hate. Everyone who has shot mine bought one for themselves. My wife who is a fairly new shooter and very recoil sensitive enjoys shooting the 632 with 32 Longs. This revolver has become one of my favorites, I will never scoff at a 32 again.
