Default My 1st S&W purchase (with pics)

I'm not particularly new to firearms as a whole, but I am new to S&W, & after some research I decided to pick up a classic example of American craftsmanship. On the advice of my father-in-law & a lot of reading here, I went with the 586 (4" barrel). I have to say that I'm very impressed, this is a great revolver. I paid $350 at a local gun shop & they threw in a S.D. Myres holster.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me when it was manufactured, & any info on the holster would be greatly appreciated as well. The serial number is ACF99xx & I've included pics of the holster as well.

Thanks in advance for all of your help....now for the pics...

In my opinion you couldn't do much better for your first S&W than a 4" 586. That was my first Smith that I bought myself years ago also, and it got me hooked! It would be one of the last ones I'd ever sell...nice job and good price too...oh and welcome to the forum!

My first was a 4" 681. A stainless integral sight variant to the 686/586 series. I ended up replacing it for the k frame 66 but it was certainly a tackdriver. I miss it every now and again but I prefer not having the underlug. Good thing about the L frame is you can shoot all the magnum you please and not have to worry about your topstrap.

Not much to say about the holster other than it is a typical former law enforcement border patrol style. Very common style of holster in use back when I was in law enforcement during the 70's & 80's. Hard to tell from the pic, but appears to be for use with a 3" duty belt. Not very practical for everyday use, but does display well with it. It was probably traded in with the 586 when they received it. Great first purchase. You're gonna love that gun! I've got one of the first 686 no dash 4" models, that I bought new and carried it until we went to autos in the late 80's. Definitely a keeper!!

I have a 586 no-dash 4'' and it is a tack driver. You did very well on your first purchase. They are a very well balanced and built .357 mag. Mine was a 1982 build. Enjoy your new Smith and let us know how it does for you.

You stole it. I paid more than $100 for a Myers holster two weeks ago, and you got one THROWN IN????
Congrats. The 586 is a really great shooter.
