Default Greetings from North Texas

Hello to all!

I've recently obtained my Texas Concealed Handgun License and a brand spankin' new S&W Model 642 which I absolutely love and respect. This excellent revolver resides in an Uncle Mike's IWB holster which I've found to be incredibly comfortable to wear.

I range tested for my CHL with a friend's S&W Model 59 and scored 249 out of 250.

I'm here to learn all I can about the greatness that is Smith & Wesson.

Gg

Welcome.

Your choice of a S&W revolver for your first CHL is a good one.

Knowing the area of the State you live in, I would suggest you practice regular, and carry extra ammo...

Thanks to all for the warm welcome! Actually, my first CHL was a Taurus PT709 Slim that has had recurrent FTE issues (it's currently visiting the warranty repair center for the 3rd time.) At the beginning of my transition from unarmed to armed civilian my choice was to be a Ruger LCR, but when I sauntered into my local Academy Sports to buy a reliable replacement for the problematic 9mm, I compared both revolvers and decided to go with the 642 over the LCR. Reasons being...

1. Conceal ability and suitability for conceal carry: The Smith's smaller, harder grip makes for better concealment and is less likely to snag when drawn.

2. Time proven design: I had been recently snake-bit with a newer design (Taurus PT709 Slim I'm looking at you!) and I liked the fact that the 642 has stood the test of time.

3. The Brand: Smith & Wesson has a better reputation in my experience.

4. Aftermarket grips and whatnot.

5. The workmanship: Compared to the Ruger, the Airweight seems to be better made, better crafted. The Ruger seemed chintzy along side the Smith.

6. Looks: The 642 is more appealing (purely subjective, of course!)

Anyways, there seems to be a ton of websites devoted to handguns, but this one looks to be a good fit for now.
