Smile Introduction

65 year old circling the drain. Served USN 65-70 as Navy EOD. Vietnam combat vet 68-69, Delta, Nha Be. Got out as an E-6 and went back to school on the GI-Bill. Now an orthopedic surgeon. Have loved to hunt all my life but got to feeling sorry for the deer and turkey and quit around 15 years ago. Still hunt some quail with my English Setters and shoot a few dove. Recently went out and shot with some friends at the Fort Benning Rifle range and really enjoyed shooting again. Had never shot targets except to sight in rifles for hunting, or train for war. I have done a lot of wing shooting with shotguns. Never cared one bit about pistols. Once on an operation in Vietnam we spent some stageing time in an Army special forces camp. I was carrying a grease gun and a 45 pistol and a pack full of C4. An old Army Sgt looked me over and asked me, "you any good with that 45 (the 1911A1)? I told him not good enough. He took me out and spent a few hours with me. I was a right handed left dominant eye shooter. He helped me quite a bit, as much as an Army Sgt will help a Navy man;^). Takes a lot of years to want to pick up military weapons again. for me 40 plus years. But I have been shooting some Garands, M1A's, and 1911's and really enjoying it. My wife went out and shot with me this weekend. She shot a Wesson K-22 I had gotten in trade, a smith 38 revolver a friend of mine had, and a compact 45 springfield I had. All the pistols I had came from a trade from an Marine who wanted a sailboat I had for his son. Wife really enjoyed the shooting. Was a natural. The 45 didnt back her off with the recoil and she loved the 38. I bought her a airweight 38 2 inch barrel that she did well with today. I would love to get her a good target smith in the 38. What is the best bang for the buck in a 38 4-6inch barrel. Thanks much. david

Default Hello David

Welcome aboard shipmate! I served in the Navy from '86 till just recently.
As for that .38, try to find a model 15 or a model 14. Those two are the very best of the Smith lineup for target work! But if your really lucky you might find a Colt Officers Model Match.
Best Dale

Hello David and welcome to the forum from OK. I'm pretty new myself but have found the folks here very helpful. There's a lot of information here as well. This is a little off target but you and your wife might try sporting clays?

Welcome from Northwest Georgia! I've been looking at setters. My last dog was a pointer, but when I retired from the Air Force, moving from Kansas to here in Northwest Georgia, I had no where for her to hunt. I gave her to a local hunting preserve and she's happy once again.
