Hey, guys!
First time here. Like my page says, I'm a USMC Desert Storm vet and I've been an LEO since 1995. First with the City of Chattanooga, TN until 2003 and since then, I've worked for the City of Winston-Salem, NC.
Back in my college days, I worked my way through school doing a Campus Security job carrying an issued S&W Model 65. Good, simple and reliable. But when semi-autos first became popular, revolvers suddenly became old fashioned.
When I became a police officer with the City of Chattanooga, we were issued a S&W 5906. It was an excellent weapon and I wish I had one today. At the time, I thought autos were light-years ahead of revolvers.
Off-duty during that time, I carried either a 6906 or later, a 4006. All good weapons. I really miss the excellent S&W 3rd Generations.
Since I've been with WSPD, our current issued weapon has been the SigPro 2340. It's a good weapon, but I'm a Glock fan. That's what I've carried off duty for years.
Rumor has it here in WSPD that we will be transitioning to the M&P .40 because the Sigs are getting a bit long in the tooth and are showing a bit of wear.
I've never fired a M&P before, so that will take some getting used to. I do OK on qualification day, so I don't anticipate any problems.
The older I get, however, the more I appreciate lighter and smaller off duty guns. I may be coming full-circle. Once again, I've come to appreciate the S&W revolver.
I just put a Model 642 Airweight on lay-a-way at my LGS. It's a lot lighter than my excellent Ruger SP-101, and with 5 shots on board, it should be enough for most situations.
Sorry to be long winded. I'm glad to be here and glad to be a part of this forum.
