NEWBY NEEDS HELP
I am looking for help to identify a gun I have received. It is A smith & Wesson 22 serial # 26166. It belonged to my great grandfather who was a lawman in New Mexico. He died in 1944 and we have pictures of him with the gun several years before that. I have posted photos of the gun and would love any info I could get regarding this. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
Your revolver is a .44 Hand Ejector Second Model. In 1957 it was given the moniker Model 21. These are highly sought after by collectors so you should be absolutely sure of it's value if you plan to sell it (and I hope you won't since it has a family history). The stocks are not original, which is important to collectors, as is the presence of the original box. Looks like you have a very nice revolver there.

Thank you for the response. I would never consider selling the gun was just curious as to what it is. I am the family historian and want to include any info in the "family history" for future generations the more info I can get the better. Hopefully next generations will understand and appreciate what has been passed down.
