Welcome.
Your number is a mystery. Could it have a digit missing or a J? Are there any letters in the vicinity of the number on the butt? Is it stamped 36-1 in the yoke joint?

Agree that you may be missing a digit orrrrrr you have a pre 36.

Welcome from Iowa.
A M36-1 of that vintage should have a J in front of the serial number. Assuming that is the case it would have a DOB in about 1969. Did you get that number off the butt? That is where the true serial number is.
Hope this helps.

Agreed, assuming it has a J prefix it would have to be '69. It has a 3" heavy barrel which was first introduced in 1967, so that coincides.
