Default My first handgun

I just bought a S.W. 629-6 44mag. Mountain Gun a couple weeks ago.

Had it looked at by a couple guys who said it is in good shape. I love shooting it and I am real happy with it. I bought it at a pawn shop and can't find any info like how old is it why is it called a mountain gun?

Any info would be appreciated.

First, welcome to the sight.

The 629 Mountian Gun is just a bit lighter then the standard Model 629. I has a tapered barrel and a chamfer on the front of the cylinder. It also has just a plain black front and rear sight.

I have the 657 and 686 Mountian guns and they seem to be just the perfect balance for me.

Welcome from Texas 629-2. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Very nice revolver there.

Chop is correct, barrel is tapered, and cylinder is rounded (chamferred). Reduces the weight a bit.
