Hello from Newhall, CA
Hello,
This is the only gun I own. I'm not a collector or user really, but ...
I inherited a .38 Special from my father, who passed away in 1996. It was given to him by his father circa WWII. I thought it would be interesting to figure out how old it really is. My grandfather owned a pawn shop in Pueblo, CO, and he probably acquired it there.
On the right side of the barrel it says, "38 S & W SPECIAL CTG". It has three screws on that same side. The serial number, on the bottom of the grip, is "S 889xxx". It's nickel with Franzite plastic stag grips.

Welcome from Texas RandallRike. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.
Post your pictures in the revolver section or in the lounge. Lots more traffic there and good folks to answer.
The gun looks to be in good condition and while I am no expert I think it might be a pre Model 10 M&P. But I want the more knowledgable folks to weigh in.

I didn't know about "police circles" but I knew Newhall was a stopping point for the train to/from Ventura County. The Saugus Cafe is also the oldest continually open restaurant ...
