Welcome, Jason!
Just curious about what kind of laws and restrictions govern the purchase and ownership of handguns in your country?

Hi Mate,
The laws here are quite restrictive compared to most states in the U.S. You must join a pistol club and only shoot at the pistol ranges and not allowed to use them for hunting.
There is a lengthy period to join a club by means of paper work, police check / licence approval and time and shoots you have to do before you are allowed to get your own handgun.Basiclly we can own calibers upto 38.Above this to 45 caliber you must shoot metallic silhouette or western action.
Barrel length is 4in or more for revolvers and autos 5in.Mag capacity is limited to 10.Some exceptions apply ie primary producer. To buy a handgun we get a letter from the club ,then apply for An Application for a permit to Aquire which costs $32.00 for each application.Waiting time various from a few weeks to a couple months due amout of applications or because than can make us wait.need any more information please ask.

Welcome from Texas Jason. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.
Always grand to have a new member of the S&W family join in from down under.
Big fan of the Shiraz wines from your country.
